Travel Help: Rome

J and I are planning a trip to Italy this fall. We can only get away for 8 days, so we are just going to stay in Rome.  Can you suggest an area we should book our room? The Spanish Steps, The Panthenon, etc. Bonus points if you can reccomend an actual hotel.

  • Awesome - this is the kinda info I was looking for. I noticed a lot of hotels in the Termini area, which seemed convenient but I'll certainly skip on that. I will look into the Prati area, and that particular hotel you posted. Any feedback on other a

  • We stayed near the train, but like PP mentioned - it's kind of a sketchy area to walk around.  Our hotel was beautiful and modern, though.

    Maybe look around Piazza Navona?

  • We did this to get into the Vatican - it was well worth it.  Literally no lines to get in other than security (a few minutes).  If we hadn't gotten tix in advance, we would have been waiting in a line wrapped around the GIANT building.

  • I second the recommendations for Viator. We always book our tours with them when we travel. They have very knowledgeable guides and only take small groups, so it's a great experience. We booked a day trip to the Amalfi Coast/Pompeii, to Tivoli to see t

  • Thanks everyone. Sounds like we'll definitely be using Viacom, and might need to reconsider a full week in Rome.  Why is this so overwhelming?

  • I went to Rome for my honeymoon in 2007.  We stayed off of the Via Veneto across from the Villa Borghese.  It was a quiet part of town not really close walking but we walked everywhere anyway.

We stayed for a week and there were still t
