Breech babies

Did anyone have breech babies? Both my boys were breech and the pediatrician suggested getting hip ultrasounds on them, although she said just looking at them and feeling them, they seem ok. I'm just sick of testing them for things and I'm curious if this is standard? Everyone I talk to thinks this is weird.

  • Hopefully LD will come in here and school us but in my non-expert opinion....

You had a c-section and were pre-term, correct?  I don't think "breech" would then apply.  They check all new babies for hip issues (rotating the sockets, a

  • Yes, they were csection and 37 weeks. We are meeting another pediatrician at the same practice tomorrow and I'm going to ask him. It just seems excessive with everything else they're going through and tests. But if it was standard obviously I wouldn't

  • No personal experience, but my girlfriend just had to deliver by c-section because her son was breeched.  The doctor advised her that his legs would be a little wonky (prob not his exact words....) from resting in that position but that would go

  • My daughter was breech, born via c-section at 35 weeks, 5 days. In addition to the checks he would do at her well visits, her pedi referred us to an ortho at CHOP to monitor; the hips are fine, we still see her ortho at CHOP for other orthopedic issues

  • I don't know much about this issue but I can't say I've ever heard of having a u/s for babies just b/c they're breech just on a personal level. I can look up in some of my books but generally they check them for hip dysplasia right after birth and agai

  • Our pediatrician asked if Declan was breech a couple of appointments ago.  I said no, but he was C-section...to which they replied that had he been breech, they would send him for the u/s on the hip.  Not sure what the reasoning there is.

  • My understanding is the ultrasound assists in determining the location of the ball in the socket and the depth of the socket, and stressing the hip during the ultrasound helps determine the stability of the hip.

  • They did not catch HD in my Bruce until she walked there was no outer signs until she walked with a limo and by then they had to do MRI and put her out. So i am thinking an ultrasound is less invasive at this point just in case.
  • C was breech and I had to have an ultrasound done on her hips for that reason. Everything looked fine from the outside, but they told me it was best to be sure. We did it and everything was fine.

  • This whole conversation is so interesting to me. I have always had "clicky" hip when I walk. It's detected only if I have my hand on my right hip as I walk. I was "frank breech" (tush first) when they had to do an emergency c-section on my mom way back in
