moms who do swim lessons

We had an incident at swim lessons last week; I'm not posting this to scare anyone, but just to make you aware if you're doing swim lessons or have plans to in the future. I  just did a blog post about it:

  http://misadventuresinbabyland.blogspot.com/2013/04/that-moment.html

My advice is this: when you're signing up for a program, ask if there is a trained person who is responsible for watching the children on the wall.  Not watching the rest of the pool, not chatting with parents, not just sitting there...but whose only responsibility is the safety of the children on the wall who are not with a teacher.

  • Oh, Emmy!  That is so scary!  It's good that Jake wasn't affected by it, but I'm sure I'd be like you and be nervous at every lesson from now on.
  • Oh my gosh, how scary:( I don't blame you for being a nervous wreck. I agree - my first reaction would have been the same, but it sounds like it is working out. I hope the rest of the lessons go okay!
  • I am so glad Jake is ok!  How scary! our pool is set up the same way so I can understand how helpless you must have felt being stuck way up there. Hugs.
  • So. Scary. When we were little, my sister was.... spirited, if you will. She was like a little Dennis the Menace actually. One time at swim lessons she purposefully went under water to see how long she could stay under there without coming up. The life

  • Wow, I would be shaken up by that too!! Thank goodness he's okay. I didn't realize they didn't let you in the pool with them at that age (or even let you sit close). That'll never fly with Lanna. Our neighbors are getting an in-ground pool right now thoug
  • Oh no! That is scary! But sounds like you approached it well so it didn't freak him out.

so there was no life guard or anything or it was just that they weren't watching? We have been doing lessons on and off since dd was 6 months old. We've done

  • OMG, that is so scary!  I am so glad that he is okay and not traumatized.  I'm glad that they now have someone there, but it would be nice if the instructors would address you about it.

I took the boys to the pool to meet a friend once

  • Very scary! Our Y we are on the deck but I still am in watch mode because those instructors and lifeguards definitely can't see everything! I am glad you kept him in and even more glad Jake was not affected!
  • That is so, so scary! I'm glad Jake wasn't traumatized and that he was fine when he came up.

You're making me appreciate the fact that the place i have jackson in lessons allows us to be on the floor of the pool, and that both the dir

I am so sorry this happened. I always trusted these people, even kept my mouth shut when my dd took lessons at our community pool and the lifeguards out of the water checked their phones and not always paid attention... Now I know better... Thanks for sha
  • So scary.  I'm glad Jake seemed pretty unfazed by the whole thing.  I think I was holding my breath while I was reading even though I knew the outcome was going to be ok, so I can only image how helpless you felt.

  • I am so glad everything turned out ok and your son probably won't even remember it.  I can't even imagine the terror that came over you in that moment.  I am planning on enrolling the girls in a class together in the fall.  I am going to be

  • wow that is scarey! so sorry you had to go through that but glad everything turned out ok.  thanks for the reminder of how vigilant we all need to be with kids and water!
  • Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, how terrifying. I'm glad you were able to cause some changes for the better to avoid this sort of thing in the future. So glad that Jake is okay.
  • I read your post and couldn't believe it !  That's so unresponsible of them!

So glad he & you are ok.  Were you at NA or North Hills?  I had to watch my nephews at north hills once & I remember being all the way up in the
