Priceline/Hotwire

Has anyone used Priceline or Hotwire? Did you like it? Do you prefer one over the other? DH and I are taking a trip to Robbinsville, NC/Gatlinburg, TN in June. We're going to leave Friday night and drive down to Knoxville (looking to stay in Alcoa, TN) and then will only have about 1 1/2 hour drive to Robbinsville the next morning. So, we won't be getting to the hotel until 11:30ish, and then would be leaving around 8ish, so we just need a hotel to crash in! I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on this hotel, but I definitely want it to be clean/not sketchy! LOL. I thought about using Hotwire or Priceline, but it scares me because I wouldn't know the hotel until after booking! Thoughts??

Re: Priceline/Hotwire

  • I've used Hotwire before and didn't have any problems with the hotel. My only issue was that once I found out what hotel I got, I checked out other sites and found Expedia had a cheaper rate for that hotel. I wound up getting a discount from Hotwire,
  • Yeah, I usually book hotels at at expedia and orbitz and travelocity as well. I wasn't sure if Hotwire/Priceline is as good as it seems haha with the price discounts.

  • I've used Hotwire for airfare. I've never done the option where they give you the 'best deal' but you can't see the details about it until you purchase though. When I'm searching flights I normally compare Hotwire and Priceline and they're always about

  • I found that Hotwire (in the past) is hit or miss on hotels. And those misses can be some real misses.

I personally like Priceline. I've gotten some fantastic deals with price negotiation. Now they have an option like Hotwire. Haven't used

  • How do the 'negotiating/name your price' options work? I'm always hesitant to even click on them because I don't want to get stuck with something I don't want.

  • athlete -- you get to at least choose the quality of the hotel... so hopefully you would get a good one and not a scary one!
  • It's been over a year since I negotiated. From what I remember you pick the category of hotel you want and the area. Then you name your own price. You may get it. If not they give a different price. You accept or you don't. I would google to see how other
  • I'll vouche for Priceline. You get to choose the amount of stars and usually it's the corporate names you would expect to see. In Nola last year we wound up with a real nice Hyatt and another time a Marriott. I say go for it!
  • I think I'm going to! At least for the hotel in Knoxville!  As soon as DH is approved for his vacation, I'll do it.  I'll keep ya all posted!

I know a couple people that have done the negotiation thing, and it worked out pretty well! Especially if you wait until the last minute. One of my friends always does it the day of, and always got a great place for really cheap!

  • I've never used Priceline, but we used Hotwire on our honeymoon to stay a night at the beach. We loved the hotel we got. I think it's totally worth it if it's just a place to stay the night in. Either site lets you pick the area and the star rating for th
