If you don't mind me asking, how much square footage do you have? My DH and I live in a one bedroom and before we moved in we were afraid our stuff wouldn't fit. IKEA is really a life saver. We compartmentalize everything and we each have one dresser.

DH and I live in a 1 bedroom. This is what we did:
PURGE - DH had enough pairs of socks and underwear for 45 days. Ridiculous. We have a washer and dryer
