Hi folks! My husband and I are planning a move from CA to OR this summer, and we will finally be buying our first house.
We've been working with a realtor up there and have been poking at listings for a few weeks. This morning we found something that we really love -- everything we've been looking for (apart from a rather small laundry room, but I can live with it lol), and the price is right. However it's a short sale.
Now my knowledge of short sales is limited, but it's my understanding that buying a short sale can be very uncertain and can take a very long time to close on. Would it be totally unrealistic to hope to put an offer in, close on it, and move into it before autumn rolls around this year?
Waiting for a call back from our realtor, rather on pins and needles lol.
Would love to hear feedback, experiences, links to good resources, etc. Thanks!

If you have time to spare, then a short sale wouldn't be a problem. When we were looking at homes, our realtor told us that short sales can minimally take 6 months and that after 6 months a bank can still say no. If you had more time, then short sales
Short sales are very stressful and not really compatible with a set timeframe for closing. You need to be willing to rent short term in the new location if you choose to persue a short sale.

I do think it would be unrealistic to expect to be moved in by the autumn. I just settled in December and after speaking with my realtor, I ruled out short sales. You just don't really have any control, the seller doesn't really have any control;
