Who to listen to - update

So I posted somewhere down below about how the corporate level of my company told me one thing, while my branch level boss was telling me something else. I figured I would post an update and some new issues.

I met with our regional manager for a review of sorts. He told me that I'm doing okay, but its time for me to take control of the territory and "own" my job. Okay that's fine. But when we discussed some things that occurred on a branch level, he basically told me that when anyone does anything involving my product I get the final say on it, no matter how high ranking the person is. I have been running into the issue where I tell some senior employees what I need for this product, and I end up getting a very poor result. For example I asked our HR girl to make a flyer for something, which she has 20 years of experience doing. The flyer turned out terrible, like a high schooler did it. My boss was mad and said I should have done it myself.

So basically now I have been told by both corporate and local managers that I cannot trust anyone else to do their job, which I think is crappy. I ask for support with this product and no one can give me anything good, and somehow that's my fault. I am worried that I will end up making enemies because I will have to step on some toes. I was wondering if anyone has ever been in this situation? Should I just do as they say and deal with miffed coworkers?

Re: Who to listen to - update

  • sounds like it's a matter of clarifying procedures and who does what (officially and unofficially, if you know what I mean). I think it's weird that you'd have an HR person make a flyer, but maybe I just don't understand your org chart.
  • Our HR department is only one person, and she plans all of our events. She has all the materials to make the flyers, and has done all of them in the past. But she made the one for my event look like crap. I already am getting blamed, and have been told by all the managers that I cannot ask anyone for help and am responsible for every single thing involving my product, including the flyers. So, even though HR girl has all the resources and has done it in the past, she does not do them for my product. Awesome. Not.

One of my other coworkers randomly came up to me and said he wants to help me however he can. He then began saying that he knows how the HR girl can be and said I should try to get her on my side. I had not said a word to anyone about how upset I was about how the flyer turned out, which makes me think she is talking crap about me. So mature and professional. I am finally getting comfortable with my job but I do not know how much more of this office drama I can handle.
