When I grow up...

So in response to Kelly's response to my last post... I dunno what I want to do when I grow up.. any insights from my rockin nesties would rock of course.

I graduate in May. I am currently in the application process for two federal fellowships. One would take us to DC for three years the other would take me to Atlanta, Cincy, or some other CDC type place for  a year then someplace else (possibly here) for another two years. Both are great oppurtunities and I really hope the second one works out. However, I feel torn. I have really loved my time here in Indy and its growing on Shane. We like how close we are to family and friends but the idea of moving is so tantalizing too... we have no idea about little people are leaning towards no? who knows... anyway, I just feel at an impass.. I have plans in both directions here and not here but its the waiting part that is killing me. I'm not very patient... oh and I want a house... I miss having a house. Okay, I am totally babbling... but that's the long and the short of it.

Re: When I grow up...

  • I say, if you have the opportunity, move somewhere else! If you are just going to be somewhere else for 1-3 years, it won't be so bad as far as homesickness, and you'll get to experience a different culture and lifestyle. We've loved our time in Dallas, and we'll probably stay. It is hard to be away from family and friends, but we've gotten used to it.

  • the waiting part sucks.

either one. Honestly, I think the second one might be better because you could experience two other places than Indiana if there are better opportunities somewhere else. You can always come back to Indiana later on in life if you really miss it.

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • I agree with PUBoilerBride,  I think its good to experience a new place for a while.  Once you get more settled later in life it would be harder to pick up and move than it is now.  I also think experiencing living in a new place can help you to appreciate your home more.  We are originally from Muncie and always complained about how small it was and that there wasnt things to do...now that we live in Indy, we cant wait to get back to the smaller place and slower pace of life there.
