When to Transition to Crib?
Just curious as I haven't formed an actual opinion on this yet, but when did you ladies start to put your LO to sleep in their crib? Right now M is still sleeping in her RnP in our bedroom but I'm wondering if we'd all sleep better if she was in her own room. She's 4 weeks today but I'm not sure if it's too soon for her or myself.
Re: When to Transition to Crib?
Not sure about the crib, but how have the first four weeks gone? What you expected? Anything you wish you'd done at day one?
I think you can only really answer that question. If you're still unsure you can always try it, see how it goes, and if it's not working for any of you then go back to your current situation.
FWIW we had DD in her crib in her own room from day one and that's what worked best for us and our situation. I felt the transition would only be harder the more she got attached to sleeping with us and the longer we got used to having her there. But the few times we did have her in our room, typically while on vacation or when she was sick, we have been extremely happy that we had her in her own room from the beginning. We all sleep so much better that way. But again, that's what works for us and may not work the same for you.

Congrats to my TTC buddies Amberley18 and tdmd09!
After 25 months- medicated cycles and a failed IUI- The most planned surprise baby ever is on his way!
I'll be honest, it's been rough. The first two weeks weren't so bad since she would sleep a lot and was just generally fairly easy going. We hit the 3 week mark and it's like she was possessed. She's become really fussy and doesn't go back down to sleep very well. We changed her formula last week as I think it was causing quite a bit of discomfort after she ate and she seems to tolerate this new formula better. I'm hoping it's just growth spurts that have been causing my formerly happy baby to become so upset and fussy. Emotionally I'm up and down. I feel like a terrible mom when I can't make her happier even though I realize that I may not be able to do anything. I love her to pieces but I find myself really missing my pre-baby life at 3AM when she's screaming. I'm not sure it's "right" to admit that, but it's true. I wouldn't change anything and I'm so blessed to have her, but I'm sleep deprived which makes me cranky and not my best version of myself. I'm also crabbier with DH and haven't been the best wife. I've been psychoanalyzing myself and am working through much of the frustrations, although a baby who slept more than 2.5 hours in a row may speed that up a bit
Sorry for the long winded reply!
PAIF and SAIF welcome. IVF questions welcome, too.
We moved M to the crib in her room at 3.5 months.
And ((HUGS))! Being a new mom is not easy. DH and I fought a lot at the beginning. Bringing a baby home is a huge change.
We moved L into her room at 8 weeks, just before Thanksgiving. We decided to move her that early because we were lucky that she was a good sleeper from the get-go, and with the holidays and traveling and then me going back to work, we thought it would be easier to just move her. She did really great - it was harder for me. Her room is right next to ours, so if she cries, we can hear her, even without the monitor. We all sleep well, but there are still nights I wake up and stare at the monitor and listen for her breathing.
As pp said, only you can answer this question by doing what you think is best for your family and how LO is doing with sleep. It may take some trial and error.

I don't have any experience - but I did want to thank the moms who shared that it worked for them to have the baby in the crib from the beginning.
I would like to have the baby in the crib from the beginning (I will try it - if it doesn't work we'll do something else). But *everyone* tells me I am crazy or laughs at me :-( I just think the crib is the best spot for the baby.
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.
Baby Boy M - 08/01/2013
DD1 was 4 weeks when we moved her to her own room. She slept in the PnP in our room to start, but around 3 weeks she became very wakeful. The 3 of us were keeping eachother up so moving her to her room helped her sleep better.
DD2 is 8 weeks today and still sleeps in the RnP in our room. She's still waking every 2-3 hours to eat at night and throws up a lot at night so I'd rather have her right next to us. We tried to transition to the crib this weekend and she wasn't ready. Laying even in an inclined crib made her vommiting worse. We'll try again in a few more weeks.
DS has never slept in our bedroom (partly because DH refused to try it, and because our room is tiny). For the first few weeks the only place he'd sleep was in his swing in the living room and we'd take shifts sleeping on the couch out there with him because I was worried he'd be lonely.
After about 4 weeks we moved him to his crib in his room, and he sleeps great there with either 1 MOTN feeding or he'll STTN
We have a video monitor if we want to check on him, and his nursery is on the other side of our bedroom wall so I can go peek at him whenever I want.
Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
Only you will know what is best for your baby and your family. I really feel like this is a case to case kind of thing.
That being said, we didn't move Ava Nichol into her own room until 6 months but we had her crib in our room. I think she slept in her crib starting about 3 months because she got too big for the bassinet on herPnP. We finally moved her into her own room because it became very obvious that she was having trouble sleeping with us in the room. She became a very light sleeper and started making much more noise at night. We used these cues to decide to make move her.
I hope it helps getting everybody's personal experiences. Even though this is a case by case kind of thing it can be nice to hear what others went through and what worked.
Also I think weeks 4-6 were the hardest for me. I was so tired and all the adjustments were very hard. It does get better. Sorry things have gotten rough.

I think it really depends on the baby-- each child has different needs.
We are just starting to move ours to the crib in her own room at night now. She's been in there for naps since about 8 weeks, but at night she's been in our room because she eats all the frickin' time and i don't want to have to get out of bed.
but, now she can go a little longer between feedings and so she's spent a 10 nights in her crib. If she's having a bad night we'll still let her sleep in the cosleeper in our room, but that has only been 1 out of last 10 nights.
On the other hand, my cousin's baby STTN really early and did much better in her own room since her dad snores. So, she was in her own room since like 6 weeks and did great over there.
Hugs.
Thanks for sharing this. I worry about a lot of the things you listed here.
I hope the new formula gets her into a groove and you can get some rest. Thinking of you!
