It's settled: I chose the wrong career path
I just got a massage. 30 minutes was $80.
Granted, she's the senior "master" massage therapist, but I was not prepared for that.
Re: It's settled: I chose the wrong career path
You know what convinced me that I chose the wrong career path? (Aside from ahem, the fact that newspapers are dying a slow death...)
The fact that when H and I went to pick up our wedding pictures, we handed our photographer a check for a ridiculous amount of money. (And parked my shabby little Honda next to her shiny, brand new Jag, lol) Our photos were the only thing we splurged on, but still...that's a whooole hell of a lot of money we gave her for max, 15 hours of work between the shooting and editing...
I spoke to her recently because a friend is getting engaged...and well, let's say she's probably averaging 10K (or more) per wedding now.
Why the HELL didn't anybody stop me on my way to the journalism school at my college and say, "Here's a camera. Step away from your computer."?
I think I'd be willing to deal with some bridal looniness for 10K a wedding...
You could always come be a face painter / body artist with me...
My rate's now $125 an hour. Not too shabby...
My friend's dad is a motivational speaker and averages $10k/speech.
Wow, I hope you like your photographs.
And massage therapy - I considered that, even checked out schools, but it's not like you work 40 hours/week or even could. Besides, it's a pretty solitary profession.
HA!
DH is a massage therapist... he's licensed in Ohio, not here.
He has a day job... he says he did the massage therapy thing because it was fun.
But it was a lot of schooling, and it's physically really really difficult.
And, as PP said, it's not like you can work 40 hour weeks doing massage, you simply can't.
I am the 99%.
I took an intro to photojournalism class. I got a D, despite working my butt off to take the pics my prof wanted. I was sooooo pissed. I had to take an extra class, because it didn't count towards my degree (had to be a C or higher since it was a class in my major.)
If I'd known how much I could've been paid, I'd have retaken that class over and over and over until I got it right.
