Well... looks like I'm taking a sleep study machine home next Friday and sleeping with it for 3 nights. They think it might be sleep apnea, and I should have results a week from when I take the machine back. I'm also getting blood work done just to rule out thyroid and other things. AND I have a fast resting heart rate, which they told me at my work physical. With my mom's current heart issues, I'm getting an echocardiogram on the 7th. Then I go back to the doctor's May 31th for a follow up.

Re: Doctor's appt
I'm happy to hear that they are trying to get to the bottom of it. Good luck, and keep us posted!! Hopefully it's something simple and fixable.
Thanks! Dr said to keep doing what I'm doing, but really strive for 4 days of work outs a week. He said that's when the body finally accepts it needs the muscles, which burn more at rest. Makes sense. We went over a general idea of my diet and he seemed happy with it.
Kind of hoping it's sleep apnea, and it'll make me have more engery to work out. Then will hopefully go away when I lose the weight.
Yup! I love it. I used to do sparkpeople.com, but I think MFP is easier to use.
Add me if you want! mana8503 same as here!
Find me too, hseipel12
I just added you both...
Mana, I'm glad you are working on getting your health stuff figured out
I've been putting it off. I needed to get a new doctor, but it was so overwhelming looking up doctors. I've had a nurse pract that wouldn't listen to me and just blame my weight for everything. I was scared that would happen again.
This doctor was very much, scales suck, go by how your clothes fit, which was so nice to hear from a doctor. I really liked him. Now to get H to go!
Ugh, yes! My H blames the Army and "too many physicals" for not wanting to go. He is aware that I find this unacceptable. I've informed him that there is NO chance of me getting KU until he goes to the doctor.
H is ex army too! He was like YES NO FLU SHOT or physical! Little did he know his new job had physicals every 6 months with flu shots! I never laughed so hard!
H is ok going, he's just glad it isn't an army doctor.
I am glad to hear that you went to the doctor and they seem to be listening and trying to help.
I should start getting back into using MFP too. I have a hard time logging food. Maybe I'll start with logging my exercise.
H and I actually just had a need-to-lose-weight discussion last night and are both going to start using MFP!! I lost 30 pounds 2 years ago purely by using it (I've since gained it back, though). My username is xxJen015 if you guys want to add me. I'm probably not going to start using until next week since we're doing a bunch of birthday celebrations this weekend
I was diagnosed back in January with sleep apnea. I have a mild/moderate case. It sounds like you're going to have it easier than me in trying to get diagnosed!! I actually had to go in for a sleep study and stay overnight with wires everywhere (I think I counted 28!!!). They recorded how many times I stopped breathing and for how long, etc. and then I went back the next night and had to sleep with the wires PLUS the CPAP mask. I now use the CPAP mask most nights (I'm still definitely getting used to it...I take it off in the middle of the night without being aware of it). My doctor gave me the option to discontinue since I'm not using it as much as he'd like, but I told him when I used it I could tell the difference between being tired because I didn't get enough sleep, and just being exhausted all of the time, which is what was happening before.
He has told me that since mine is mild/moderate, it could be related to my weight and that if I lose 10% of my body weight, they'll do an at home, overnight oxygen test to see if it's improved with the weight loss. If I can encourage myself to do this, I think it'll help. The oxygen deprivation to your brain is a lot of what causes you to be so exhausted when you have sleep apnea, so that's why they measure that level.
ETA: Since I can't figure out how to post a picture either, here's a link to me hooked up my first night!

XXJen - AWE look at you!! Who knows what I'll have to attach for the machine I bring home. I'll post a pic if it's interesting!
I do have a fitbit that you wear at night and it seeing how many times I wake up... it's always 12-20 times. You can see when I'm really restless. I think once it was in single digits in 2 months. So I'm kind of thinking it might be it.
The Dr did said if it was sleep apnea, that it could be weight related. But I'm just so darn tired to work out. I've been going at lunch so I don't have an excuse after work. And I always eat better when I work out (don't want to undo what I worked out).
I guess we wait and see
I'm glad that they're trying to figure out what's going on! Hope you get some answers soon!
I know what you mean about being too tired to work out! Before I started the CPAP machine I was sleeping 7-8 hours a night, taking a nap on my lunch break, and usually one when I got home and I was still exhausted allllllll of the time. They told me before my sleep study that they thought I didn't have the throat of someone with sleep apnea, but lo and behold, I did. I never knew I was waking up, but my study showed that I stopped breathing I think it was 72 times (and that's considered mild/moderate!!).
When I was doing my sleep study, my BFF thought they would make me leave my phone elsewhere and so she started texting me around 2 in the morning saying "ARE YOU SLEEPING NOW!?!?!?" haha they came in the room and asked where my cell phone was because it kept going off and was waking me up...I had nooooo idea!!!!! I wasn't aware of it at all.
Mana...
Good luck with all of your tests! I hope that it's just something that a simple lifestyle change will fix : )
DH won't go to the Dr. either. I've been begging him to go for nearly 3 years! He's a physicians assistant, so he should know better that he needs to have a primary care dr! He has a simple work physical every year, but it's like a 5 minute thing that's not a real physical.
