We found a house and are now under contract for the north hills/ ross townshp!!!! The house is towards the beginning of mcknight road (ie behind Bravo/Boston Market). I work in Oakland. I need to find a daycare for my 3 year old and my soon to be newborn! I've called tendercare and kindercare. they are substantially higher than what we currently pay in our area for daycare. some of you recommended some other daycares but they seem out of the way (up mcknight road whereas i'll be going down it). any suggestions on other places i can try from the house to Oakland that are more affordable?
THANKS!!!!!!!!
Also- how do you like the school district? from the 'rankings' its not 'the best' (def better than where we are now so that was the goal of the move). but are you happy with it? THANKS!
Re: Moving to north hills!
Congratulations on the new house!
Emmy lives over that way, but she is a bit further down and I know her kids go to daycare down further. I am not sure that there is a whole lot on that end of McKnight daycare wise. There is a new center by Lowe's that is opening soon, I believe it is called Doodlebugs.
As for North Hills, my cousins went to school there and are successful. I can't comment, we live in Shaler Area and I went to North Allegheny.
we go to mt nazareth which is off of bellevue road close to west view. We really like it. If you are going to oakland & go the back way through millvale - check out Mt Alvernia Day care - my sister works at Mt ALvernia (not at the day care) but they are one of the lowest priced places in the north & very nice. Mt Nazareth is cheaper than the ones you cited but more $$ than Mt Alvernia. I have heard doodlebugs is really expensive.

no help here but this is how I feel about out district ( not north hills) Dh and his siblings graduated here and 2 of 4 nieces and nephews as well. They are all just great. I know in some cases it "matters" but I feel alot of it comes down to your kids and the way you are imvolved with them, their live an their school work. People look down on our district, but hey, at least we aren't city...I don't see anyone offering to move me!!
Good luck on your new home and daycare search!

Welcome to the north club!
As Kris said, we use a daycare further down McKnight so probably not much help to you. But I just wanted to say welcome to the area! Jake is going into kindergarten this year, but I loved the tour of the elementary school (he's going to McIntyre) and it seems like they have a lot of great stuff going on.
I looked at the school district rankings like this: I went to Trinity in Washington, which is always ranked like, 40 or something in SW PA. I turned out fine and got into college, so I figured that going to a district that was ranked in the 20's was a step up, so we're good to go, even if it's not the absolute best in the area

I used to live in the exact area you are talking about and also work in Oakland. Unfortunately the ONLY daycare on the way (on McKnight Road) would be Tender Care. Another poster mentioned Mt. Alvernia which could be made to be "on the way" if you went the "back way" through Millvale. I have a friend who uses it and loves it.
My son is 3 as well, so I don't have a school district opinion, but I would have been perfectly fine staying in NH, but happened to find a house in NA.
Good Luck!!
they must be good.... i called and they only have availability in the infant room. no availability for 3 year olds and said not to even bother putting him on a waitlist as there is never any openings. they just start in the infant room and work their way up and never leave! thanks though....
