Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

What to call someone

I am not certain of how to address someone. They have a DMD at the end of their name. I want to send this person an email. Do I say "Dear Dr so and so"? I'm not so certain I should address them by their first name since they are a program director.

Thanks!

Re: What to call someone

  • I would call the Dr. for the first email...sometimes they end up signing it just Mike or whatever. I have to email professors that are DR. alot and I start that out like that till I develop a more one on one relationship with them.
"Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly"
  • I agree I would use Dr. until they say something like oh just call me John or whatever. Dr. sounds more professional when you don't have a better relationship.
  • Thank you. I adressed her as Dr and she responded (rather quickly) as Dr. I just wasn't positive and I didn't want to offend.

    Thanks again!
