Colicky Baby- suggestions??

After talking with her pedi today he thinks M has infantile colic. He had some suggestions such as gas drops and said I could use gripe water as well but I'm also curious what other moms have done. Any suggestions on certain brands of gas drops or gripe water that have worked?

Re: Colicky Baby- suggestions??

  • i bought various brands of gas drops and didn't see a difference between them. we never tried gripe water. i think one of the mom's used chamomile tea. you could also try keeping her upright after eating for 30ish minutes to make sure it isn't a touch of acid reflux that is bothering her. good luck! fussy babies are the pits.

  • We used the Little Remedies brand for both. I don't know if we saw much of a difference with the gripe water, but he wasn't super fussy, just super gassy in the beginning. We used the gas drops almost every feeding at night and did the gripe water every 6 hours as instructed. We eventually phased them out.

  • Sam was really gassy and the Colic Calm gripe water worked great for him. R was my colicky gal and nothing worked for her besides age. True colic isn't caused by discomfort, the baby just cries for no apparent reason. Hang in there!

  • Wait-- is it colick, gas, or indigestion/reflux?

if colick, I thought you were SOL until baby gets older.  If it is gas, i have heard people on this board highly recommend the Windi.  We occasionally used the Little Remedies gas drops but they never helped (but I wasn't sure we were actually dealing with gas so that could have been the problem). And bicicyling their legs helps a lot.  If it is indigestion/reflux, grip water (Little Remedies) worked for us. As did holding her upright for 20-30 minutes after feeding.

I tried to give as little medicine as possible since they both have a decent amount of sweetness to them.  So I'd try them, but if they don't help I'd stop them so you aren't giving LO sugar unecessarily.

GL-- I hope LO feels better soon!
