Need suggestions for gift

H mentioned that he would like a chain that he could put his wedding band on when he is at work....he apparently met a man the other day who does the same type of work (construction) and this guy showed him his finger, which had been almost ripped off because of an injury at work combined with the fact that he was wearing his wedding band and it freaked H out.

So now I'm trying to think of a place where I can find a chain before next weekend....and I can't spend a huge amount of $ on it.

Here's where I need help:

-H's ring is tungsten, and I can't find many tungsten chains online (haven't looked in stores yet) so would you go with another type of metal for a chain? If so, what kind of metal should I be looking for? It would need to be somewhat heavy duty...

-Should I try and scramble to get this by the weekend or get him something else for an anniversary gift and re-visit the chain idea another time?

Re: Need suggestions for gift

  • I've heard of lots of guys in construction doing this. My hubby works construction and has seen lots of guys/heard lots of stories involving wedding ring mishaps. H has a ring, but never wears it. He doesn't wear any jewlery, never has and never will on a regular basis. He wears his ring out if I ask him too lol.

While you'd like the chain to be fairly heavy duty/manly lol, you also WANT it to break (or at least the clasp to) should it get caught in anything. I like the idea, and think that if you can't find one for next weekend, i'd still do it anyway, kind of give him an IOU. I'd personally just go with another metal. Sterling silver?

Good luck Christine, it is a great idea! I've suggested it to H.. he laughed... lol

    PS. how are you feeling?

  • I think Sterling Silver would be great because if it needed to break it would. White gold wouldn't be bad with Tungsten however I would honestly let him pick it out since he will be the one wearing it. I would maybe get him like a card with a "coupon" inside saying something about the chain. This way you have time AND you can find something that works.

H works in construction too and we have thought about buying him a cheap ring just for work but just haven't done it. I'm glad what he actually does just scratches up his ring and we don't have to worry about any major damage to his fingers. Otherwise I think H just wouldn't wear it at all.

Thanks!! I was thinking about sterling silver...I feel like white goal is too fragile. They also make stainless steel ones but I don't know if I'd be able to find any in a store around here.

I'm feeling ok! My allergies made an appearance today, and I have major post nasal drip going on, which is making me gag even more all day ugh! Other than that, mostly tired and sore boobs so far. Thanks for asking :)

I like this idea. That way, he can get what he wants. H is a mechanic and takes it off and leaves it in his tool box, locked, while he is at work. I suggested the around the neck thing but he wasn't very into it.

  • I think I would go to the store and see what you can find.  I think sterling silver should be fine, but you can always see what they think.
