Checking in

Just wanted to pop in and say hi!

Wanted to see how everyone was doing and who is going to have the next nestie baby!  I'm still kinda in shock that I'm a Mom for this Mother's Day!

Everything on my end is good, actually pretty great for the time being.  DH and I had some amazing moments this week and I have been so blessed, it's like I gave birth and suddenly I'm superwoman Big Smile  He was my savior in the beginning with pumping and just general mental support.  I honestly look at him and tear up with so much love for him - not that I didn't before, but it's a total head over heels type of thing.  I'm sure that will all change as soon as babies come home and he is snoring away soundly next to me!

Babies have increased their feedings and now I'm not making enough milk, so I'm little stressed about that.  I am diligent about pumping knowing that it's the only thing I am in control of right now and can do for them. I'm going on day 6 post birth and my milk is still not fully in, but I am getting a small amount right now and at least they can get that.  LC's have been helping me (NICU is amazing!!) so I'm starting an herbal supplement today.

But as far as the babies go, they are kicking @ss and taking names!  I fall in love with them more every day.  So far we've done 30 mins of kangaroo skin to skin with them twice and will try to do it every other day.  Right now, every other day is what they think is best for them.  It's great because I had the opportunity to hold Finn & Isla and same for my hubby. It's weird sharing your time between two babies, that's for sure.

I did diaper changes on both of them yesterday and that was SO amazing.  Each day gets better and better.  Plus, DH and I have been really treating ourselves to lunches and dinners out which is probably going to have us dipping into our retirement (kidding) but after a cocktail and a fabulous meal at Valanni, I feel like a million dollars Stick out tongue

I still have to put down to paper our birth story to share with you gals, it's a pretty good one... and I started a Caring Bridge website but almost feel like a blog might be easier, so I'm hoping to get that worked on very soon.

Thanks again for all the well wishes and support and I just wanted to share that the whole Jewels family is doing super well!

Oh and is a huge AW and don't judge me for bragging, but I am down 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight and I'm not even a week out.  I gained about 7 during my pregnancy, so I'm down 18 total since last Thursday!  How I weigh less now than what I weighed before I got KU, I have no clue.  But I literally danced around my living room and then tried on a bunch of pp clothes and they fit.  Of course my stomach is totally distorted and out of whack, but I'll take 18 pounds off my frame without doing jack sh!t any day!

  • Awesome news about the weight loss and even better news about the babies!  Yay Julie!!

If you need a fellow preemie mom who pumped and did well with it for moral support let me know.  One of my co-workers had a teeny tiny one and she ended up pumping for at least a year with her.  You are doing great!

  • This is a fantastic update. Glad all is going so well.  You are doing an amazing job.
  • Yay you!!!! and about the "without doing jack" ... ummm you certainly did a lot! haha I don't think you are giving yourself enough credit!I wish i was at my pre-pregnancy weight!!!!

keep at it with the pumping. My milk took a few days to come in and they supplemented a bit during that time and then BAM it came in.  We are at 11 months of successful pumping/bf'ing and don't have plans on stopping. Obviously I only had one to feed but with all the pumping every two hours I ended up with a major oversupply and a know some moms on the preemie board who also did.... which is probably not an oversupply for twins.  Since you are pumping every two hours your body will start making more milk than the babies need... also if you haven't already talk to the hospital about getting a hospital grade pump for home. insurance should cover it for at least the time they are in NICU.

Also major YAY for DH... that is so awesome that you both got to kanagroo the babies.. best feeling ever right?? hope you are taking lots of pictures (hint hint) because these are moments you will want to remember

also sending you a PM on fb so I don't sound super creepy on here haha if you get a second to check it it'll be there!
