Talk to me about sippy cups

When did you introduce a sippy cup?  Did you put formula/breast milk in at first?  Any brands or styles you prefer?

Re: Talk to me about sippy cups

  • Hi!

We introduced a sippy just before 6 months. She didn't show much interest until 7mo and she figured it out about 7 1/2 months and we took the bottle away at 8 months. We did formula in it and water. We tried juice a couple times to get her interested. Now she gets milk and juice in it.

We use Nuk starter sippys. She loves them because they have handles. She recently figured out how drink out of a straw so we got her some take and tossstraw sippys.

    Good luck!

I think around nine month we gave DD a sippy with just water per our pedi's recommendation.  At that time she would play with it more than anything.  At a year, they no longer accepted breastmilk or bottles at daycare so she was forced to use a sippy with milk.  She refused and was not very happy about it at first, but after a week or two she was just fine.

  • We introduced a sippy of water between 6 and 7 months with meals. It took her a little while to get the hang of drinking from it and not just playing with it. We started with the Munchkin trainer cup, those are still her favorite. She'll also use the Munchkin straw cups.

  • We introduced a sippy at 6 months when we started solids and after trying one soft spout cup we went straight to a straw cup.  We liked the cheapo Take 'n Toss cups until A figured out how to pull the straw out.  At daycare she uses the Playtex Little Gripper straw cup and at home our favorite is the Zoli-Bot cup.  Harder to clean, but the weighted straw is awesome!

We started with water when we first introduced the cup.  After a few months daycare would offer formula in it, but she wanted nothing to do with formula in a cup at home.  Around 11 months we offerred wcm at meal times and she loved it.I

  • Thank you!  I think we are going to try L with a soft tip sippy cup later this month when he turns 6 months old.  I just am not sure if I am going to start with water or formula.

  • We started giving it to her to play with at 4 months. She still usually just throws it around. She does sip from it occasionally. We put water in it.
