Dominican Republic or Jamaica?

DH and I have already discussed next year's anniversary trip plans to stay at an AI resort.

We're torn between DR and Jamaica - which do you all prefer, and why? I was thinking either Punta Cana or Montego Bay. Any other suggestions are welcome! TIA!

We went to Punta Cana for our honeymoon last year. We stayed at Dreams Punta Cana (there are a few over there). We had a really great time there. Our friends that went for their HM recommended it to us and they went back for their one year anniversary. It wasn't as expensive as Jamaica but we did pay a lot for a couple of excursions we did. Our friends are going to a destination wedding in Jamaica (the ones that also went to DR) and they said that although it's more expensive than DR, they have a lot of excursions that are included in the price. We really liked Punta Cana though. The only thing I didn't like was (if you do go on excursions) it's about an hour ride to get to the area where they are at. So if you plan on doing them, I would recommend staying at a resort closer to where they are.

They both look pretty awesome! Thanks for the tip. I've had a lot of friends that have been to both; I'm looking at photos online and of course everything looks the same. LOL

I'd like the couples resort too, so I'll have to research those next. We're in our 40s, want to have fun but relax at the same time, and I have no desire to deal with a bunch of obnoxious singles in their 20s causing havoc.

I actually prefer Jamaica over DR. Tripadvisor.com is a great resource to check out different resorts. My recommendations for Montego Bay would be Secrets Wild Orchid, Secrets St. James, or Iberostar Grand.

I have not been to the DR but I have been to Jamaica twice. I love it. We have stayed at both Sandals Whitehouse and Grand Palladium. Grand Palladium is about 45 minutes from Montego Bay. I didn't care for the looks of MB but we had a great time at the Grand Palladium.

I vote for secrets wild orchid as well! The drinks, service, pool, restaurants, and hotel are all amazing!! The beach was extremely small and kind of a disappointing...however, everything else made up for it.

We stayed at secrets royal beach in the punta cana this year since we loved the secrets brand so much. The beach was much more crowded ...and the drinks were kind of a bummer...but the swim up rooms are awesome and the over all resort is great!

The airport in punta cana had the absolute fastest customs department. We went from airplane to taxi in less than an hour.
