wedding cake

So H & I just picked up the top tier of our wedding cake which has been in my grandfather's freezer for the past year. I took a peek and it's not wrapped! I thought my Mom had wrapped it in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, but I guess not. Do you think it's still safe to eat?

Re: wedding cake

  • I'm not 100% sure but I don't think so. I wouldn't risk it. That's a bummer!

  • I agree don't risk it. That really sucks though. I'm sorry!

I agree!  As long as it was frozen then I really don't see what the problem is.

  • I'm with Christine.. If it went in the freezer right away it's probably fine... Might be a little dry but I'd still have a bite...

  • Ours wasn't wrapped, and we ate it on our anniversary.

  • You can always try one bite. We ate ours at 6 months just to avoid having a crappy cake. We were thinking about trying to order a small cake from the same place for our anniversary. All depends on if I can get home before our anniversary. All you can do is try. Our cake was pretty dry and I had it wrapped with plastic and aluminum foil.

  • What the hell. Why not? You only live once and you haven't lived until you have freezer burned wedding cake! I doubt it will taste very good though...
  • Besides freezer burn or not tasting great it should be fine!  I would eat it!!

  • It will not taste as good probably dry other wise I dont see an issue eating it. H & I ate ours a while ago. The place we got our cake from makes a new top tier for free on our anniversary so we did not have to save our top tier.

  • Do IT!!!!
"Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly"
  • As long as it's been frozen this whole time, it's fine. It may be freezer burned, dry, and not taste great, but it won't hurt you.

However, if its been thawed and re-frozen I would toss it.

  • I would try it, if it's gross it's gross. Our was wrapped in plastic wrap and a few layers of tin foil in a box and it actually tasted pretty good! It wasn't really dry at all.
