Amber-FSBO Question

Did you have an appraisal done? We agreed on a price last night, but now our real estate agent friend is saying we should have an appraisal done to protect ourselves in the future. We didn't even think about this until she mentioned it.

We did make our offer contingent on the home inspection but are now being told we should also make it contingent on the appraisal as well.

Re: Amber-FSBO Question

  • It was 10 years ago, so the memories are foggy.   We had to have an appraisal done for the mortgage.
  • So since you aren't involved with a bank right now - it might be something to think of.
  • if you are getting a mortgage, and not paying cash for the house, your mortgage will not be approved if the appraisal value is less than your buying price. I am just jumping in here after a week of being away.  We bought FSBO just last year. Had a lawyer do our offer paperwork and had contingencies on selling our old house, the appraisal, mortgage approval, and inspections.
