Re-intro...and...Coconut oil?

Hi guys! I intro'd a while back..so if you don't remember me, I'm sorry I haven't been too active! I'm 27, my husband's 37 - we've been married for over a year now, and started TTC right away. We have two dogs, two cats, live in the country, drink a mandatory glass of wine a night and absolutely love the Pen's ;) Especially Letang...ohhhh how I lovveee Letang...Anyway..onto the good stuff!

We've been TTC for about 14 months now. All testing has been negative. Everything appears to be in working order, except for my semi-short LP's (9-11 days on average). Took Clomid last cycle (while seeing my OB), ovulated successfully, ended up with a BFN. OB wanted me to take another cycle of Clomid, but I elected to see a RE first. Appointment with RE is in a couple weeks. I promise to post more from here on out!

Today I went to Costco to grab some coconut oil to give my dogs as a supplement (apparently its helpful with food/skin allergies, per my vet). After I got home, I was googling more info about it, and discovered people use it for a lot of things! Of these things, I discovered people use it as a personal lubricant, as well!

Has anyone ever used it as a lubricant? Any thoughts? I can't find any evidence that it is harmful to sperm, but I can't really find any info on it (besides a lot of people raving about how great it is as a lube). We usually need some sort of lube, and we're out of pre-seed (and likely not buying more until after we see the RE).

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Coconut oil can actually help in wound healing and has some antiseptic properties.

On the other hand, I have no idea what its effect might be on pH down there.

  • I've heard it's good for people with allergies to synthetic lubes. It's also recommended for moisturizing the labia. I wouldn't be against trying it, but my husband hates the smell.

  • I love it in cooking. I would probably try it in the bed room.

Thanks for the insight ladies! After a few glasses of wine (and maybe a little vodka) we did indeed give it a go last night.....so far, so good! DH loved it, I didn't notice a huge difference between it and any other type of lube (although DH did), and so far, vag feels as it always has.

  • This has to be one of the strangest threads I have ever read. I would be worried if it has antiseptic qualities affecting the ph balance and causing problems like yeast infections.

Didn't someone on here use egg whites because pre seed was too expensive or because it was more natural and didn't kill sperm? I can't remember.
  • I've heard about the egg white things but i doubt I'd ever try it.

  • EWCM.... eggwhites... same difference, right??
  • OMG who is washing the sheets after you use eggwhites?! imagine waddling around with semen and eggwhite dripping out of your vagina
  • EWCM.... eggwhites... same difference, right??

I believe that is the theory behind it. But it supposedly works like preseed and isn't harmful to sperm. If someone wanted a more organic approach to it, I can see using it.

Good to know, I'd read it was a good lubricant.  I love to cook with it, so I always keep a huge supply handy.  I know it has other uses, like facial moisturizing as well as lip balm or chapped baby booties.  I'm not so brave as to try as a lube, but in a pinch we might go for it :)

Do it! Always handy, natural, and oh soooo slippery.

Makes for some good foreplay, too!

I'm always worried anything lube related is going to stop the spermies. I've even stopped using pre seed. Any thoughts? Previous advice from your RE?

No reliable advice, unfortunately. We stopped using lube for a while as well. We used preseed for several months. And we used coconut oil for a few months, as well. We have yet to get pregnant, and have no real diagnosed issues. Our RE said he really didn't have evidence either way, but also suggested no lube if possible. It's really hard for us, with scheduled sex, to not use lube. If I'm not working, I'm less stressed, and can actually enjoy myself more. But If I'm working 13 hour days for 4 or 5 days in a row, literally the last thing I want is sex...so lube is necessary to even try and have sex.

I wish I had any answer to your question! Our RE only could halfway recommend preseed, and said he doesn't think it would hurt - but no real in-depth studies have been conducted (other than the studies conducted by preseed itself).
