Kindles/Amazon Prime

I know several of you ladies have a kindle - I think i have heard about an "online loaning library"..does anyone know what I'm talking about??  How does it work?

I actually just joined Amazon Prime (haven't decided if it's worth it yet...still in the 1 month trial), and I know you can borrow 1 book a month on that.

I also know there's something with our library that you can borrow kindle books as well.

But DH's friend was talking about something where people can put their books up for loan and others can borrow them and read them???

Side note on Amazon Prime - does anyone else have it?  Do you think it's worth it??

Re: Kindles/Amazon Prime

  • I can't talk much about the Kindle because H just uses his for games. I do have Amazon Prime though and it's worth it for all the shipping I've saved. Everything is 2-day free shipping. I ordered stuff to make the favors for my wedding (mason jars, apple cider).

Now I use it for school supplies for work, home stuff (like larger bottles of shampoo they don't carry in stores), and presents. It's nice to shop online and have it show up 2 days later without having to go to a store.

  • I was thinking the 2-day shipping alone would make it worth it!

Couldn't agree more that the 2-day shipping is way worth it.

I'm still on a "student" membership (since UVA never kicked me off their email list) which means I get Amazon Prime for free, but I don't have access to any of the streaming videos or lending library for my Kindle that paying Prime members get. I wish I did though! I hate how expensive the books are on there.

I know I've heard about lending books to other Kindle readers and I've meant to do it multiple times, but never got around to it. If we figure it out, maybe we should set up a Kindle lending library on TK?!? I'd feel so much better paying $10 for a book if I knew other people would get to read it too!

Go to your local library and sign up for a library card and ask if they offer ebooks, or you can double check on their website before you go. Then you just have to download a program, i think most use overdrive, onto your laptop and then you can borrow ebooks just like a regular library book.

I know for the Nook there are only certain books they offer as LendMe books, so that's why the library is nice!

I have a Nook and used to do this all the time before we moved to MA, I still have to get to our the library here and get signed up!

    happy reading!
