Is it necessary to use a lawyer for a will? I'm looking for a basic will for my elderly married parents and also for my family (me/hubby/1 kid).
Any reputable online services?
THANKS.
After 7 years of marriage and 5 unsuccessful IVFs, we have been granted the gift of adopting a baby boy, born 4/21/11.

Re: doing a will
A will is a function of state law, so if you do use something from the internet, it would need to be specific to your state. That said, I would personally hire an attorney to draft my will.
ETA: you have an adopted child. Hire an attorney.
I will put this out there that if you don't have money for a lawyer right now, it's still better to have SOMETHING rather than NOTHING drafted and notarized.
If you draw up a will on your own, do as much research as you can before going to a notary and signing it.

Why do you say that? If she's comfortable with her state's intestate secession laws, why do you think it's better to have a will drafted by an unskilled person? I would think a poorly done will is more problematic than no will, especially if you are okay with the way your state would divy up your estate.
Good luck; I need to do the same thing.
Are you just getting a will or are you going to have any other planning docs done (living directive, etc..)? I'm going to do something along the lines of Five Wishes, but not sure what because Texas is not one of the states for which the Five Wishes form documents are substantially compliant with state law.
I guess we also need to set up a trust for LO in case we die while she is a minor.
I believe that every state has different "rules." In CA, to be legal, it just needs to be witnessed (signed) by two different people.
We were able to get wills, power of attorney and another form covered through my supplemental life insurance at work (they referred us to a lawyer through their network). If you have that, I'd look into seeing if they cover it.
