(#) Friday check-in

How's everyone doing? Today is my day off from the gym but I'll be going both Saturday and Sunday.

B: grapes, string cheese

S: green pepper w/ hummus

L: chicken salad

S: apple and/or clementine

D: whatever they serve at my office holiday party

Question of the day: How do you stay on track at holiday parties? Any tips?

Re: (#) Friday check-in

  • B: oatmeal, raisins, flax, OJ

    S: banana

    L: lentil soup

    S: apple

    D: TBD.

No exercise today, again.  I'm still wheezing from this damn bronchitis.  VERY over it!

Brooks, I tend to either plan to splurge, by eating low-cal the few days beforehand and doing extra exercise.  OR I try to be very judicious about what hors d'oeurves I take.   You don't have to take something every time they pass by with another tray.  Also, limiting alcohol tends to help with not overeating.

However, the former "earn yourself some extra calories at the gym, then have fun and eat/drink whatever you want" is way more fun, in my book :)

  • B: skim latte and scone

L: chicken rogan josh and pita chips

    S: clementines and yogurt

D: chicken fajitas with vegetarian refried beans, cheese, and guac (no tortilla or rice)

Ex: 30 min. elliptical and weights

I need to step up the exercise this weekend because I had some fried plantains last night and a Manhattan. Mmm, bourbon...

I don't go to a lot of holiday parties, so I'm not sure I have good advice. soprano's advice to avoid drinking too much is good. I know I get drunk munchies big time. If there are veggies of some kind, try to eat extras so you don't eat too much else. Other than that, just try to focus on moderation, I guess.

  • B: Nothing yet, and it's already 11!

S: grapefruit--I bought a huge amount from a Lion's Club sale, and then my grandmother sent me some oranges and grapefruit as she does every Christmas, so I have to just eat citrus all the time.

L: Amy's mac & cheese and Morningstar Farms nuggets.  I made pasta last night, but there was really only enough leftover for one.  So I let my husband have it, and I'm eating toddler food instead.  Luckily, that's decent on calories

D: No idea.  I'm hoping to swing Chipotle, which is actually a bargain for me calorie wise, since I am not allowing myself sour creme or cheese.

S/Dessert: My great aunt sent us some See's candy, so I'm going to allow myself 3 pieces after dinner.

ETA: Probably no exercise tonight. I have to finish a take home final by midnight, and then I promised DH I'd play Mortal Kombat with him to reward ourselves for finishing up the semester.

Holiday parties are hard.  I'd allow myself to eat what I wanted, but in total moderation.  No point in denying it, and then obsessing later.  Just eat one cocktail weenie instead of 5. Wink

  • Breakfast was Low Sugar Oatmeal and Decaf Tea.  To be honest, I am not going to eat lunch. I am going to have ground Turkey for Dinner.

  • i have completely fallen of the wagon this week and it's awful. my office is doing our annual holiday breakfast potluck all week. people aren't even trying to pretend it's breakfast, considering that the amount of decadent sweets could send someone into diabetic shock. today, someone had the nerve to bring in the most delicious cheesecake i have ever set my tastebuds on. for breakfast. good gracious.

yesterday, our cafeteria had free holiday lunch --turkey, stuffing, pie, the works.

then, last night my GYM had it's annual holiday gala. they invite some of the city's best restaurants to cater with enough food to feed a small village for year. it was also free, so i ate up. oh and i haven't worked out all week.

i have no good suggestions for how to avoid the holiday junk fest, other than padlock yourself in your basement until the new year. honestly, i don't think it's *bad* if it's done in moderation. i.e. DONT be like me. (i don't even have the courage to list what i've eaten today. it's shameful)

  • Rushing this morning I skipped breakfast. I know bad!!!

DH & I hit a local burger joint right outside the mall for lunch. I had a cheeseburger and cheese fries. Really bad!

Tonight we are going to grill a couple of ribeyes and have a salad on the side.

Tomorrow night we have two holiday parties to go to. UGH! I don't know how I will manage that!  But I will try to be good during the day tomorrow. And maybe between grocery shopping and holiday decorating I can exert some energy!!!
