Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a little advice from women who are good at this sort of thing. My DH is recently deployed and I have his first care package put together and ready to go. This one wasn't so hard because we talked about most of the stuff he needed, so I just threw in some extra goodies and it was full.
Now I'm thinking about the next one I might put together and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Of course, I ask him what he may want but its mostly "eh I don't know, I guess I have all I need". So, no help there. I'm usually pretty good at gift giving for holidays and birthdays, but this is totally different.
Any suggestions?
Re: Care Packages
Magazines (I sent some on tactical weapons because he requested them. I also sent the Time Magazines that came out that were "American History" and there were a few other special editions they reproduced last year)
Socks (after his deployments with the Marines he has this thing about wearing a new pair of socks everyday)
IDK where YH is but DH said a lot of guys received seasonings to use on their grill but there was an over abundance of those.
I sent a box of his favorite cereal which he didn't even mind having to eat without milk.
At Easter I sent him typical Easter basket stuff, filled eggs with short messages (ex. "I love you because..."). I filled the empty spots of the box with Easter grass.
You really just have to get creative with it. I mean, on his birthday I sent him his typical stuff but I just sat down and wrapped it all first to make it different/special...plus I did cake in a jar. He actually really enjoyed the goofy stuff I sent. I sent him Legos, Dominoes, electronic poker, coloring books (I suggest markers because the crayons I sent melted on the way there), green army men, play dough, card games. The list is seriously endless.
Hope this helps.
My husband just got his birthday package. My daughter insisted on wrapping every thing in the box. He loved it. I am mailing out his Easter box today. I found a bunch of fun things to put in there as well as some non-candy snacks. I'll be mailing out another box next week that has magazines, beef jerky, puzzle books and a few other things that don't include candy since his last two boxes were full of it. I have another planned that is a baseball theme. I'll put in Big League Chew bubble gum, a ball, popcorn, peanuts and some other baseball themed items.
I usually just hit the dollar store and the snack aisles and send things. I also send him travel or sample sized laundry detergent, febreeze, good sunscreen (Army sunscreen sucks), foot powder, sandwhich bags for taking snacks with him and other fun things I find.
These are a lot of help.
Thank you!
First, I dont know what branch your husband is in but make sure you send things in enough time!
When I sent out all of my care packages they were themed. So I did a Halloween box, and world series box... anything that was going on at the time. He said later even though he missed home it still made him feel like he was connected to what was going on here...
I also sent things that were surprises, i sent a body pillow with a fun cover, a picture of me to put in his bunk so it looked like we were sleeping next to each other... just silly little things....
Good luck! Oh and I would send letters when i wasn't sending a box, I got a box of Bright purple envelopes and sent all of my letters in them so when he saw a purple envelope he knew it was from me!
