omg that sucked

I just made myself run. I went out to the trail on my lunch, and pretended to ignore the heat. that lasted all of 15 seconds. Still ran 2 miles in 21.5 minutes, so not a bad pace considering. But I do not recommend running when it is 80 and sunny.

Excuse me while I pass out...

Re: omg that sucked

  • You are nuts, I can't even stand outside when it's that hot, let alone run!

Kudos to you for doing it though!!

I'm planning to go to the trail by the park after work today. You aren't making me look forward to my date with the trail :)

  • Great job!  The heat is definitely not my friend when running.  Are you running on a trail near work or home?

Meghan, when I worked downtown, I often changed at lunch and went down to the jail trail for a quick jog. Other times, I'd do a warm up going across the 9th street bridge and use the trail that went into Washington's landing.

  • we are about a mile from an entrance to the Montour Trail Meghan. I am working at home today. I contemplate running at lunch in the office- but can't figure out the logistics of it all. (Especially on hot days when I would need a shower). There are a lot of trails along the rivers though, it would be nice to make use of them.

you go girl.... I know last night just doing the treadmill in the house (central AC not turned on yet) was a killer. I was planning to wait until later but my lovely 4 year old made me accountable asking when we were going downstairs to exercise. Even in the basement it was HOT!

I see cooler temps for the weekend though. :)

Way to go, and good pace to boot!
  • That's why I asked - I always thought about running the jail trail, but the logistics have kept me from actually doing it!  I belong to the Y, so I could technically shower there if needed, but have been debating whether or not I should cancel my membership.  I was thinking of maybe trying after work on a cooler day.

Going directly after work or at 5 a.m. have been the only way I have been successful in incorporating exercise into my day. Last Wednesday I thought I would die after my 4:45 run, because I went to the gym Tuesday am and it was 30 degrees, I wasn't ready for 87 the next day. Despite being hot, I felt great when it was over...and drove home with the sun roof open and the AC on arctic blast. Definitely consider an after work quick run.

  • I ran last night at about 7:45 and it was so hot, I really struggled.

Speaking of trails, where can I park to access the different trails in the city i.e. jail trail, etc.

  • Way to go!

the really hot temps are definitely challenging! I usually run with the dog and she is just not used to the warm temps to take her when its that hot. Dd goes to gymnastics after work on Mondays and I run with the dog but it was too hot to go with her and then I couldn't run later. Blah!

I ran last night at 8 when it was cooler but a huge thunderstorm came rolling through. Made me have my fastes mile ever, haha! I still got soaked!

  • leiann, the ones around downtown you would just have to park on the streets or in a garage.  There are various access points- for example the Jail trail you get onto around the PNC first side center which is on like 2nd ave I think. The south side one is easily accessed from Station Square (or the south side). it goes across the river near the hot metal bridge and then connects to the jail trail I believe. Then there is a path along hte north shore as well. I tried looking for a map but I can't find one.

luckystar- I can't believe you were out running when that storm started!  It was tons cooler when it was rolling in though! (and I am sure the rain helped cool you off some too!)

Kev was out of town so I didn't really have the ability to run in the morning before work cause the pups are not legally allowed to watch EJ, even if she is sleeping Wink Hopefully that will be my last run in the 80s for some time!
