retail therapy

I decided this morning to do some summer shopping using gift cards.  I over spent by $150! Omg.  I always buy a bit more then im sure I want because I try things on at home and decided if I like it or not.  Turns out I don't like anything I bought! I feel weird returning the whole lot of stuff (3 shirts, two pants).  But I was able to get 2 pairs of shorts and 3 shirts at walmart for $33.  Also not in the budget but now im set for summer.

I definitely went shopping though because I was bored and grumpy.  I'm so frusterated with myself.   Living on a budget is hard work.

Re: retail therapy

  • Budgeting is very hard.  Especially if you enjoy a little retail therapy. So here's what I've done that has helped.  I ask for gift cards for every holiday and birthday so I can go shopping for cute outfits and not feel guilty about it.  I also make it my goal to pay 50% of retail cost. Between coupons, discounts, etc.

Then I also sell Tastefully Simple on the side, to help pay for any "extra's." If I want to go with the girls to get a mani/pedi, then I need to sell some product to pay for it.  We do not allow those extra's to be taken from our regular budget.

Lastly, I have a rewards credit card that I pay for everything with. Then cash out the points for items I have wanted. It tastes some patience, but I don't feel guilty afterward.

  • I would return it if you don't like it.  I never buy anything unless I'm absolutely in love with it

Just return what you bought.  Don't ruin your budget for summer clothes.
  • Just to follow up I returned the big purchase, but kept the info for one piece that I will look for during the next big sale and returned some walmart stuff.  So I only kept $23 worth (3 t-shirts, 1 short) and I moved budget money around to pay for it.  Yay! I feel much better now.

I also ask for gift cards.  I love gift cards.  I know some people don't like giving them but I enjoy shopping so it works well for me.

  • I am a serial returner of things and clothing. Trust me, as long as you have your receipt and the tags are on, the sales associate won't care a bit! Promise!
