We are doing a budget vacation in November to MoBay, JAM. We're staying at the Sunset Beach Resort, Spa & Waterpark. This resort gets mixed reviews, but it looks like a good place for a few nights with 3 young kids (as much as we would have LOVED Beaches, we just couldn't swing the cost this year).
I keep reading that the beach isn't the white sand I was hoping for, so I was thinking of taking a day to go to a really nice beach. We live in Jersey so we're used to sub-par beaches, it won't ruin the vacation.
#1 has anyone ever left their resort to spend the day at another?
#2 do you have any suggestions? I'd like to stay close to MoBay because my kids are young (7,4,2) and wont want to sit in a cab/van too long.
Re: Booking a beach excursion in Jamaica - suggestions?
It's been years since I was in Jamaica & I understand the roads have improved since then. We left a resort in MoBay to go to Negril. It was a long drive. We went to the place with the cliff divers . . . not someplace I would take kids the age of your children.
I think you'll be OK at the resort. Since this is a budget vacation, I'd wait to book an excursion until you got there. There's usually a desk in the lobby. Check out places like TripAdvisor before you leave home to see what's available & the costs but if where you are is fine, why spend the money unnecessarily?
Many of my co-workers take there kids to that resort each year and I've heard they have a blast! That they really cater to the children, etc. The best beach by far in Jamaica is the 7 mile in Negril. You could make the trek there but it will be about 45 mins on the bus. There is also a beach down from the hip strip but it is a lot of locals, which is great but maybe not somewhere to venture with 3 children.
