cell phone bill

So DH and I are realizing that our cell phone bill is ridiculous - about $175/mo for 2 phones! Our contract is up so we were looking to go with a cheaper provider. We thought about switching to Net10 but I just saw a whole bunch of bad reviews.

Who do you all currently use? Anyone use a no-contract provider that is good?

 TIA!

Re: cell phone bill

  • My Husband switched from his Sprint over to my Verizon after we were married in Jan. We both have smart phones and it seemed like a good choice...But we still pay almost $170 per month. I hope you find an answer to this! I'd love to hear about a few more options!

  • We pay about the same for two phones....smart phones with unlimited everything. I havent found a way to go much cheaper.

  • t mobile is great.  we pay $100 for 2 iphones - unlimited talk/text/data/long distance. It's the best, plus I don't think they have contracts any more.

ETA - I should also add that we bought our iPhones off of craigslist and know someone who jail broke them to be used on any network.  we had them before tmobile actually carried the iPhone.  even now that they do carry it, the plan is still way cheaper than verizon

I have 3 lines on T Mobile (no data plans, no internet) - unlimited texting, 1K shared mins which is fine because all 3 of us text mostly or call others who also have T Mobile so those calls are free, total with taxes $92/month, contract. The phones we have: nuron, behold and Samsung t359.
  • DH and I use Verizon, but I should add that we don't have SmartPhones (yet). We pay about $80 per month for unlimited everything. We know that when we upgrade to SmartPhones we will pay over $100 per month.

It's doubtful that we'll leave Verizon though because they do have the widest network of any other company and we travel a lot. We get service in the mountains, rural corn fields and the northern U.S. whereas our family members with different providers get sketchy service in these places.

If you travel a lot to various types of national locations (besides large cities) this may be a consideration for you.

If you and/or your husband work for larger companies, your companies may have employee deals with various providers...you should check that out as many companies don't advertise it.

Is this the value plan? We have tmobile, but we would have to pay 250 to get out of our current contract and then arent eligible for phone upgrades, if we went to that plan.. The phones full price are so expensive...like $500 . So we called it a wash. I like to upgrade my phone, I also like the phone insurance, ive used it multiple times. So we stayed with the $149 (170 with tax n charges) plan for unlimited everything, and phone upgrades.

  • We use the Verizon Share Everything plan, where we have 2 smartphones with unlimited talk and text but 1 gb shared data (we've only ever used about half of that) for $135/month.

Yes, it's the value plan.  We got on it a couple years ago.  My iPhone cost about $300 off of craigslist.  It's a one time charge.  From what I understand if you get tmobile's iPhone on the value plan the cost is a little bit more than $50/month until you get it paid off and then it goes back to $50/month.  Or you could just save up money and pay for it in full keeping the payment at $50/month.  To me it's a better deal than having the $100/month for an iPhone plan at verizon forever.  That's how they finance their iPhones.

  • I'm not a huge fan of t-mobile. DH and I did look into them, and the price just didn't seem worth it.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but we have AT&T now and smart phones. We considered dropping the smart phones, as they're kind of a distraction anyway. But alas...I am hooked and it is a nice gadget for my business. I'd like to get a tablet, then maybe I can boot the iPhone.
