Angie's List Beware

I found a land surveyor on Angies List. He was highly recommended by them, even given the surveyor of the year award several times.

When the guy came out he couldn't produce proof of insurance. Then admitted he surveys on the side, while working full time for City of Cincinnati.

Not sure how he could perform that many surveys in a year while working full time somewhere else?  Seems fishy...and he says in been in business since the mid 70's?  He is only in his mid 40's (also fishy)

I've called & emailed Angie's list several times and they aren't responding.  I'm recommending that you also check out businesses with the Better Business Bureau. Do NOT reply on Angie's List!  Beware!  Something's not right here!

Somebody had to recommend him to get on it right? Plenty of people have second jobs. You could do plenty of surveys a year on he side.

How do you know his exact age? If he were early 50s it isn't hard to believe he started in the 70s.

Maybe you are right to be apprehensive, but I don't think it's that crazy.

  • Like any recommendation, I take Angie's List reviews with a grain of salt.  There are precautions Angie's List takes to try to ensure the integrity of their reviews, but they can't guarantee everything.  Double checking with the BBB is a great idea, but not everybody with a bad experience reports to them either...

For instance, I bought a car from a used car dealership that boasted they had no complaints with the BBB.  They were right--no complaints!  I spent all my savings on a car (as-is, of course) that test drove fine and didn't shift gears the next day.
