Tax on Internet Orders

I made two online purchases and noticed there is internet sales tax. I didn't realize that went into effect.

When did it start?

Re: Tax on Internet Orders

  • If the company has a presence in your state then there will be tax.  This also means if they have a parent company in your state that is also considered a presence.

  • I try to buy most thing on amazon because there is no tax or shipping with prime membership.  I bought DH a father's day gift online at walmart yesterday and there was tax.

Depending on the company, they have to charge you sales tax since they also have stores in your State.  Also, a lot of States require you to voluntary to pay taxes on purchases made on the internet that they didn't withhold State sales tax from.

All Congress wants to do is take the voluntary away.  I know in Ohio there is a line item to add this tax.
