What do you just let slip?

What are the things that you know you shouldn't do as a parent but you do anyway?

Re: What do you just let slip?

  • I am known for letting L sleep in the clothes he had on during the day.  I always make sure they are appropriate for nightwear, but I rarely put pajamas on him.  Also, I still put pooped diapers in the trash.  Sometimes, the house smells horrible because of it, but I continue to put them in the trash.  It drives DH crazy.

  • I let P watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Little Einsteins when I need to get something done (like getting ready in the.morning if he hasnt fallen back asleep or when i have to get us ready to leave the house). He seems to like Mickey. He.smiles a lot and loves when I sing the song. I'm even more surprised DH lets this slip.

I remember my best friend telling me when her 3 year old was a few months old about how surprised she was with allowing him to watch Sprout in the morning as she got ready for work.  I think it is common when you are trying to get something done in order to leave on time.

Our one niece watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse all the time and has since she was able to pay attention to it. It drives DH and I nuts when we go over, because all she wants to do is watch tv. She'll be 3 in July.

  • When E was a newbie, she slept on me in my bed. It was the only way anyone was getting any sleep. We also took her out in public every day for the first week of life. She loves to watch hockey. Sometimes when she is super fussy, we park her bouncy seat in front of the tv to calm her down.

We have the TV on almost all the time, which is very different for us. And it's not kids' programming because we know L doesn't know what he's watching. So he ends up watching things like Dr. Phil.

I also let him nap with a blanket which I swore I wouldn't do until after he was 1.

We have disney junior or nick jr on a lot. She'll watch some of it but she'll mostly play with her stuff. I wouldn't say she's addicted though...or at least I hope she won't be.

I do not restrict what she wants to eat. most kids I know are very picky eaters so I let her eat anything she wants. I'm sure soon enough she'll start denying all kinds of food so I'll take what I can get now. Note: she eats lots of veggies and fruits.

  • Lately it has been bath time. We were very strictly every other night for the longest time but recently if she isn't dirty or we don't have anything going on we let it slide for a few days....or more.

I do both of these. We have tons of newborn clothes, but they just don't fit. We had to run out and get premie outfits. We don't have a bunch and they work for day & sleep. No harm.

hmm, I also eat while holding one.. I hate doing this.

I swore up and down I would never bring a baby in bed with us. It happened. Twice. He was cutting 2 top teeth at the same time and nothing settled him down except being with us.

  • L sleeps with a blanket. We don't rush to change her diaper if it's wet (poop gets changed right away). She doesn't get a bath every night. She sleeps in bed with us if she's having an especially rough night/is sick/is teething. She never wears socks and shoes. I put socks on her sometimes in public so people don't think we're poor and can't afford socks. We don't restrict our tv usage if she's in the room. She usually ignores it and just plays on the floor. Every now and then she glances up and watches for a bit, usually when we're watching Star Trek or Doctor Who, so I don't mind. haha
