Just got a job offer

I just got a new job offer but I'm not sure what to do.

I am working in an International non profit organization 9 to 5. I hate my job, I'm over qualified and my salary is barely the minimum. But I have benefits, year end bonus and vacations.

I have a degree in marketing and just got an offer form an art gallery. I would have to work there monday through friday, 2 pm to 7 pm and also do the marketing to improve sales. My salary would be low + commissions but I don't know if it's worth it.

Am I crazy to consider this an option???

Re: Just got a job offer

  • It might make you feel more fulfilled, but might not be the best option unless you can supplement the income with a part time job.

Do a budget - if you can survive on what you'll make JUST with the salary from the art gallery, it might be worth it. If you would be relying on making a certain amount of commission every month, or worse still falling short even with commissions...then no. I wouldn't do it. You might temporarily be happy with the new job, but you would soon grow to hate your situation if you were always wondering how you were going to pay your bills or where your next meal was coming from.

Thanks! I was just thinking short term knowing I would feel happier, i didn't realize I was going to feel the same shortly.

Yes I would be able to make it just with the salary but I wouldn't be able to save any money nor have any "luxuries" ( facials every 4 months, pilates classes, etc.)

I also thought it would be a good opportunity to start my own business, in addition to my marketing degree I am also a pastry chef. I know it is a gamble, I could do really goog or just strugle to get by...
