Dealing with morning sickness

Today, I woke up and I feel like I'm in a constant state of fighting the urge to throw up (I'm at work and they don't know I'm pregnant yet). I ate a little hoping that would ease my stomach but it only amplified the situation. Any suggestions?

  • I had horrible MS from week 6 to week 15. It was awful. Like throwing up 1-3 times a day.

    For me, I felt better on an empty stomach. When I ate, especially like a full meal, that is when I would throw up. Smaller meals helped. Lots of water to stay hydrated. Starburst always made my tummy feel better. But I craved a lot of sugar my first tri. : )

    I hope you start to feel better real soon and it shouldn't take long for you to figure out what works best for you to help you feel better and be able to tolerate the ms.

  • just find something you can eat and eat it.

    I felt like that (constantly fighting the impending urge to vomit at every moment) until about 16 weeks, then it was off and on until about 18. No fun.

    I found what worked for me was plain (salted) potato chips and red gatoraide. I would eat little bits of other food, but it was hard.

  • I was almost constantly nauseous for the first 14 weeks.

    Here are some things that helped me- lemonade, lemonheads, bagels, eating whatever sounded good at the moment even if it wasn't healthy. I also felt the best when I had something in my stomach. If I got hungry I needed to eat right away. So I snacked all day long.

  • I actually had worse nausea on an empty stomach, so I found that by eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or some other protein, before bed helped me feel better in the morning. Then I usually ate a bagel and cream cheese and ate every two hours throughout the day after that.

     I hope you find what works for you soon!

  • i ate anything that sounded tolerable since so much sounded down right revolting.

    there was a lot of ginger ale and crackers at first. but after throwing those up that was the end of that.

    i ate a lot of gushers for awhile. sometimes it was noodles. it was very random and whatever worked.

    sea bands helped to take the edge off for me. i wore them 24/7 (except for showers) until i was about 16w. i took them off at one point and began to feel worse so i put them back on for good. 

    Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

    At first I didn't eat anything for breakfast (I know..really bad), but that was the only thing that made me feel somewhat normal in the mornings. After 11am the nausea was gone. But then as the weeks went on I had to eat something so I always had saltine crackers at my desk and I would munch on those throughout the morning. This again really helped me avoid any morning sickness in the 1st tri.

    Every woman is different though and you'll find what works (and what doesn't work) for you. 

    Pretty much the same for me. I felt more sick if I ate something in the morning. I would eat something once I got to work, like a bagel or crackers or oatmeal. I also kept ginger candies and mints at my desk to suck on and those helped ease the nausea. 

    Water, water, water. 

  • I put together a little bag full of things I could eat or might need and carried it everywhere. I had almonds, saltines and canned fruit. I also had butterscotch candies. I carried a scented hand sanitizer I could handle so if there was a smell I couldn't tolerate I put the smell under my nose and it was all I could smell. 

    I had to eat whenever I woke up to pee at night...just a handful of almonds and crackers. Eat whatever you can and whenever you can. Try to sleep a lot...I found when I was tired that would make me sick. Also, drink more water than you ever thought was possible!

    Hopefully you won't have to deal with MS for long but if you do I hope you figure out the tricks that workfor you! Good luck!

  • I had to eat something before I could get out of bed: crackers and dry cereal were my go tos. Then I could get up and actually eat breakfast. I also had to make sure that I brought a snack to eat before and after lunch. Mostly I just couldn't let myself get hungry or I would get sick. Most of the times it worked but other times it didn't. Oh and ginger ale was amazing.

    The first trimester is tough and you are just trying to get through it. So eat what you can when you can. And make sure you take in enough fluids.

  • Morning sickness is currently my arch nemesis. I've been drinking tons of water and sucking on peppermints. If I get really bad I've been using Sea Bands for a few days. They're wonderful! I try to munch on small stuff throughout the day, I have a little bag in my work bag that I've started keeping stocked with almonds, crackers, granola bars and fruit bars. 

    I found that taking a nap after work really helps with being sick in the evening.

  • Phenergen.  That is all that saved me.

    Before it got really bad, Sea Bands helped, and things like popsicles, lemon water, crackers, and eating whatever sounded good.

    Pretty much what others have posted but I'll add what I didn't see...peppermint tea to replace my coffee in the morning. Also, not drinking while I ate helped. I would drink 30 m in to an hour after I ate. At home I would just sit on the couch propped up and take it one day at a time. Hang in there!
