how was your MM month of May?

Does this board to an end of month MM report like is done after the weekends?

This was my first month on a serious and tight budget. I think we did fairly well. Here is how we did above fixed expenses. (B =budgeted, A=actual spent)

Groceries: B 309, A 296.58

Gas: B 100, A 80.06 (car was in shop for 4 days getting winter tires changed so that saved a lot on gas)

Diapers: B 51 A 61.46

Fast food: B 40 A 60

Other: B 80 A 208.49

Hair: B 60 (ongoing jar for every 6 weeks)

Car license sticker: B 6 (ongoing jar for once a year payment)

Total budget 646, total spent 772.59 over spent by $126.59 (ouch! We are taking this out of the june budget which is making it very tight!)

In good news dh got a bonus so between that and the amount of our paycheques I have allocated to savings we put $400 in our efund (now it sits at 475) and I paid back our disney fund for our trip in september.

Re: how was your MM month of May?

  • eh for us.

While we did opt to up our mortgage payment amount to some more to principle-only, we had an unplanned expense of meat.

We bought a bunch of frozen meat to store in bulk, which was $409 and unplanned. The good news is that we got all the cuts for like $4 a piece so in the long run, it will save us money.

Also, the bill from our accountant came and due to us filing federally and in three states, plus having bought and sold a home in 2012, the amount due to him was a bit higher than I thought it would be...he had a lot more work from us to do this time around.

All the bills got paid, but we didn't save as much as we had wanted to (we're saving for a mini van).

  • I haven't went thru the receipts for may yet , but probably will this coming week.  I know I was able to put a LOT in the efund as I booked a lot of gigs this month.  We started the efund in Jan. and currently have about $2,200 in there right now:)  My goal is 3k by the end of the year.    We were also able to pay off DD's medical bill leaving our only debt my school loan.  feeling really great about our financial future right now.

  • We ended up about $200 over budget for the month.   I was working long hours, and that always means more take out for us.
  • Our overage budget areas were:

    H's spending money - $14 over

Health and beauty - $13 over (lots of allergy meds for H)

Pets - $ 17 over but this is a rollover for last month

    Groceries - $3

    Eating out - $12

    Total - $59

I did increase some areas since I did my quarterly run to BJs, mainly house supplies (cleaning, TP, etc)

    Eliza Mae - September 16th, 2014
