Traveling to Mexico this week

Hello,

So it has been quite a while since I traveled out of the country.  I plan to take cash however we will also have a credit card in case of an emergency.  Will we encounter any issues using our Credit Card?

  • Just call your credit card and tell them you will be in Mexico that way they do not decline charges. I do that for our international travel and never have problems then using my cards.

This.  as long as you let your card company know ahead of time it is really you using the card you should be fine.  I have used mine in Europe and Africa and never had any troubles as long as I called first.  Have a fun trip!

  • A lot of places won't take a credit card, so get some pesos from an ATM when you get there.
  • I go to Cozumel every summer. I have never called to tell my bank that I will be out of the country and I have never had issues. BUT, I pay for the majority of my souvenirs/food/etc. with cash and I rarely make large purchases. I usually save my CC for meals at the airport, paying for luggage, and things of that nature.
  • There are places right in the airport to exchange money, they have the best rates. We also used our credit card only for our hotel, everything else is just better to do in pesos, especially vendors where you can bargain.
