I don't think we did a running post in a couple weeks - how is everyone doing? (Also, I thought we could do a general fitness/exercise post, not just running!)
The last two weeks have been tough, I haven't done anything! The stomach flu made it's way through our house, then last week I was traveling for work. I wanted to get out this weekend, but I was honestly exhausted from the last few weeks and chose sleep over moving. Before this I had finally reached the point of running a 5k in under an 11 minute pace, so hopefully my lack of activity hasn't set me back too much. I plan to run tonight, we'll see how I do!
I also decided to not cancel my Y membership, so I am looking forward to getting back to taking classes again. (Cross training on my own just isn't working out that well, I need someone telling me what to do.)
This weekend I have the Dirty Girl Mud Run. I am not nervous about the running part, but I am not sure how I'll do on the obstacle part. It's my first mud run though, so I am excited to see how it goes.
Re: Running/Fitness Post!
Well, I was supposed to try and run the full 5K yesterday in preparation for the color me rad race this weekend, but then I was so tired from all of our weekend festivities that I chickened out.
I will head out tonight, especially since it's supposed to be cooler.
Last week, I did one day of 2.5 miles, followed by 2 days of 2.75 miles...the first 2 were not too bad, it was fairly cool. it is amazing how much of a difference the heat can make....I did the 2.75 miles on Friday morning and even though it was only 7am, it was muggy and wow, did I struggle!!!
I think my challenge from this point on will be that once this race is over, i will need to still stay on top of getting out there and keeping up with it.
Jake - 1.15.08
Liam - 5.17.11
I think copilot is doing that same run Meghan! you will have to look out for her.
I have been a little lax still since returning from Disney. But I am going to do something tonight. Maybe yoga (which means I should probably go fill up my water bottle and keep it full the rest of the day!). Now that K is back and not traveling for a while i think it will be easier to find my routine again.
Also congrats on speeding up your pace! That is my next goal as well, I would like to average closer to 10 minute miles.
The last couple weeks have been a struggle. DH was out of town some, busy schedules, DD's birthday, family bday party and friend bday party. Not to mention the weather! It was freezing and rainy, then super hot! So I think 2 weeks ago was really bad for me, but I tried to do better this past week. I didn't really know where to pick back up with C25K because I found the week I was on a struggle when I had done it.
So I decided to just run on my own this past week without doing the C25K app...and it was GREAT! It felt so freeing to just run. And with that, I ended up doing so much better than when I was doing C25K. I ran 3 times this past week, and each time I had a fastest mile and beat my overall pace.
I was really proud of myself last night. DD's bday party was yesterday and I was exhausted afterwards. I didn't want to run but told myself to just go out and at least do a mile. Well, I actually felt awesome once I was out. I had my fastest mile (under 10 minutes, yay!) and I ended up deciding to just run 5K. And I had my fastest 5K time, which was 30:56. I am so excited with my time. I would like to work on getting under 30 minutes, and it is definitely seeming doable now.
So I think I'm a C25K dropout, but in a good way. I don't know why, but I just seemed to do so much better on my own vs "watching" the clock and waiting for my app to tell me to run and then walk, etc.
Amanda - Thanks! I am such a slow runner, so seeing the 10: before my 5k pace time makes me feel super speedy. haha! I will look out for copilot - not sure what time she is running, but my group is signed up for the 9:30 wave.
Emmy, for me it helped to sign up for a few races to make sure that I stuck with it until I got into the habit of running on my own without a race to prepare for. I am doing the Peace, Love, Run 5k at North Park on June 23rd if you are looking for another one!
Hi everyone!! Emmy - I am so impressed at how far you have come so quickly!!
I agree that running in the heat is sucky for me. It's the main reason I am waffling on signing up for my next half marathon (early Sept) because all that training has to be done in the peak of summer. The mud run sounds fun. I admit, I am leery of those events because I am afraid of getting injured on the obstacles! I already have knee problems - I can't imagine that slipping thru mud would let me get out unscathed.
As for me, I did 4 runs over the past two weeks on my trip. I was not in the easiest city to run in (I couldn't just leave my hotel and go run...it's just not done, you have to go to the park to run) and I did 2 of those 4 runs on a treadmill which I don't care for at all. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I had everything laid out for a run this morning but I didn't happen. Tomorrow is another day!
welcome back friend! when K was OOT I thought, I need E to be here to swap out kids/runs. Then again it was disgustingly hot. So it was more of a thought than an actual plan.
