Tokyo! Hotels and recommendations!

Hello,  My husband and I are taking a trip to Tokyo in early September.. Any recommendations on hotels, things to do, or unique adventures would be great! We want to make sure we get the most out of Tokyo! Thank you!

Re: Tokyo! Hotels and recommendations!

  • I went to Japan last summer and have a review of the trip in my blog if you'd like to take a look. Our hotel in Tokyo wasn't super fancy but I really liked the location and it had a decent breakfast -- Best Western Shinjuku Astina.

  • I loved the street food late at night. The pachinko parlors were a cultural experience. The Kabuki show was super neat. Take the subway. Go to some parks. I don't remember the hotel we stayed in, but Trip Advisor is the place to look for stuff like that.
  • Thank you! We also wanted to take a trip to Mt Fuji! Any recommendations on how to get there? Or where to stay?
  • I looked into hiking Mt. Fuji, but from I read the terrain is not that impressive and it's better to go somewhere you can see the mountain from a distance. We also looked into going to Hakone because it's supposed to have good views when it's clear, but I couldn't find anywhere I wanted to stay.

    • I recommend Hakone to see Fuji. There is a loop trip taking all kinds of modes of transportation. We did it as a day trip from Tokyo using the train/subway//public transportation (not a scheduled tour group).
    • I have stayed at the Shinagaw Prince hotel. The room was small. Hotels are expensive in Tokyo. They had a great breakfast buffet included in the price of the room. It was convenient to the subway.
    • I also recommend the Sumida River boat trip between Asakusa to Hama detached Palace Garden. Asakusa has lots of vendors.
    • Kabuki-za theater in Ginza. They have day of half price tickets. Look at their wesite on line for info. The line is on the left of the building. I recommend you buy a program to understand the story line.
    • Harajuku on Sunday when the young people dress up.
    • I recommend seeing some temples and shrines: Senso-ji Temple (Asakusa), Meiji Shrine.
    • I never made it to the Tsukiji fish market but all my co-workers recommend it.
    • If you want pearl jewelry go to Jane Yonamine's Pearl shop in Roppongi.
    • Remember that visiting Japan is to experince the culture not necessarily to go see the sights.
    • Food is expensive but you can find cheaper food in the train stations. It si takeout Japanese food.
  • Go early to the fish market!!!!!!  It's a really neat experience to see the tuna sales in the back.  And get sushi at the little restaurant near the front of the market....  best ever.

  • I like go to Ginza when I go to Tokyo.

My friends like Omotesando and Ikebukuro.

I think you should try going to a karaoke box. It's fun!
