gates on banisters/top of stairs
So, my little houdini has been trying to bust out of his crib the past few nights. His room is right at the top of our stairs, so we need to install a gate up there to keep him from tumbling down (with Jake we just put a gate across his door, but he was older & never climbed anything, so I didn't worry about him getting out)
We have a banister on one side of the staircase, and the gate would have to be mounted into the wall on the other side. I don't want to have to drill into the banister if we don't have to...any suggestions for gates? I'd like one that has the swing through door.
thanks!
Re: gates on banisters/top of stairs
We have a metal one that opens like a door. We have a banister on one side wall on the other. Something like this http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10963317
I think the directions said that if you use it on stairs to drill it into the wall. We didn't do that. I'm sure if the kids pushed really hard they would knock it off. But they know not to touch it and we usually only close it at night incase dd roams out of her room. I'm really glad we have it because we now have a sleep walker on our hands.
I pinned this on Pinterest. But there are tons of ideas on there.
We had to use gates to keep Bruce off the stairs when he first tore his CCL. We ended up not doing it because he is deathly afraid of gates(which is so ridiculous being 125 lbs) and will not go near them so we could just lean it.

This has worked well for us. We installed it about 3 weeks ago. Our toddler just started climbing out of his crib and this gives me peace of mind.
Kidco Angle Mount Wood Gate for Stairs http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006OJIJCW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We ended up returning this without even opening it because we had a Summer extra tall gate that we felt safer with because it was about 5" taller. The Angle Mount was only 31" tall, it seems too low for the top of the stairs for us.
This is the gate we ended up with - http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Secure-Extra-Walk-Thru/dp/B0000DEW91/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1370284267&sr=1-2&keywords=summer+infant+gate
Good Luck!
