I read the post below and I've been wanting to ask a question, sorry if this ends up being long. We currently have an old plan with Verizon, Nationwide Talk Share 700 minutes for $50. I get 19% off with my company and then we each pay $10 for unlimited texts. But then when we add on the minimum 2G of data which is $30 for each phone our bill is $149 per month.
Our phones are not working right and we want to drop the data and get different phones too. If we upgrade to basic phones that don't require a data plan, we would have to either pay retail or sign a new 2 yr contract and get them for free. I should mention currently our contract ends 8/27/13 so we only have about 3 months to go. I've looked into buying something unlocked and activate short term but then I don't know where we would go once our contract ended.
We mostly text and make phone calls. I like Verizon except for the price. Family and friends all have Verizon and like the service. Any suggestions? Do we figure our something other than Verizon or do we just go get two new free basic phones, sign a 2 yr contract without a data plan and move on trying to get the cheapest plan possible. Or does anyone have a better, more cost efficient option?
Re: Another cell phone question
I feel your pain! We have 2 cell phones with Verizon. Our monthly bill is probably close to $150 as well. I think we have 1000 minutes, we each get 250 messages and DH has unlimited data (old plan, so we got grandfathered in on this) The unfortunate thing is that if we switch, not many plans do unlimited data anymore. I feel like our bill is too high, and yet we aren't sure what to do either. I know there are some month to month phone companies out there- but I'm not sure about the service. Plus, all our family has Verizon so the free Verizon to Verizon is really nice, and helps us keep our usage down on the minutes.
Interested to see what anybody else says on this.
We also have Verizon for our cell phones. We recently upgraded to smart phones but our montly bill stayed the same. The upgrade cost us $80 which I wasn't too pleased with but it is what it is.
Our cell phone bill looks like this
Share Everything Unlimited Talk & Text $50
25% Access Discount through work -$12.50
Monthly Charges $37.50
Smart Phone Line Access Phone #1 + Insurance $46.99
Smart Phone Line Access Phone #2 + Insurance $46.99
Taxes & such $9.34
Total Monthly bill $140.82
I know some people feel that this is a lot for a cell phone bill but considering everything is unlimited I don't feel that it is too bad. Yes, we could drop the insurance and save $13.98/month but that just doesn't seem worth it if something were to happen. Since we don't have a landline phone I'm OK with paying $140 for two phones.
TMobile for us. We have contract, 3 lines, no data, 1K shared mins, unlimited text for all 3 lines, total $91 (that includes tax). We have work and home Internet so didn't care to have on phone too, have nuron, behold and Samsung T359 phones.
Just something to think about with Verizon. If you buy the phone outright, you're not going to get a cheaper monthly bill versus signing the 2 yr agreement and getting the phones for free. If you decide to go somewhere else, you can always buy out the contract.
Trust me, I feel your pain. We're at about $152/month for two smartphones with the Share Everything plan and 1GB of data. And that's with a company discount that I found out is going from 19% -> 16%.
Our bill with verizon was $145 a month (with a 22% work discount). We both had smart phones with the share everything 700 minutes/unlimited texing/and 1 or 2 GB of data. I got annoyed paying that, so I downgraded my line to a basic phone (an old phone I still had). The plan I have is $40 for the shared 700 minutes with H, same GB for H and I had to get $10 for unlimited texting. Our bill is now $120. I'm always around a computer so I really don't need the data package.
Since we are in a contract until Oct of 2014, I couldn't switch to a prepaid Verizon plan like I wanted to and that was only $35 which included 500 monthly minutes and unlimited texing and data if needed.
