MM victories make me HAPPY!

Last month DH and I decided to create a budget and track all of our expenses. We always wind up putting money in savings every month so we never really did that, but we thought it would be interesting to see where our money went. We also wanted to hit a certain savings goal.

Well, last night I finished filling out everything, and we met our savings goal! Not only did we meet our savings goal, but we did it in a month that had a lot more expenses than we had budgeted for! (Like we were evacuated for a wildfire and had to pay for a hotel, we had to buy clothes, etc. to get us through those days, we had preschool registration come up, extra camp fees, etc.)

It was so exciting to see the bottom line! We're doing it again for June.

  • Congrats!!! That is awesome that you were able to achieve your goal on top of all that life threw at you this past month. I know it's a great feeling!

  • Nice! Congrats on figuring out where your money is going and putting more of it to work!

We really need to buckle down & pay ourselves back in the savings department. We've been taking too much out for miscellaneous expenses. Any tips you can share?

I'm not sure we really did anything different this month. Maybe just the consequence of writing everything down was enough to make us think twice about larger purchases?

We did use our debit cards exclusively, as opposed to using a mix of debit cards and CCs. The reason we did that was because we paid off all our CCs. So by using our debits only, we were taking from what we had and not borrowing from what we would earn, if that makes sense.
