QOTD 6/6

What do you think of cosmetic surgery?  Would you ever have anything done?  Do you have anything done?

Re: QOTD 6/6

  • I want Lasik!!!!  My eyesight is terrible.  I got RX sunglasses and the lenses are almost an inch thick!  I will get this at some point.

My maybes: Being that I have bigger boobs, if they ever get tuck-into-my-pants saggy, I want a boob lift.  Twins run in my family.  If I have twins, and my stomach looks like a warzone after, I might consider something.  It would depend on how it affected my self confidence.

  • How do I feel about it? Well, everything in moderation. If something makes you feel better and you can afford it, more power to you. If it gets to be an obsession... You have more issues than what you're trying to fix on the out side.

That said -  after kids I want a breast reduction. They kill my back and I know after kids they will be "tuck in your pants" as Heidi put it! If I didn't want to try to breast feed I'd do it now.

I also want Lasik too! I recently had to stop wearing my contacts because of some eye issues. Hopefully, my eyes will heal enough that I'll be a candidate for Lasik in the future. I really HATE wearing glasses!

  • I definitely want eye corrective surgery sometime in the future...it's well worth the money that's for sure!

I have this place on my stomach that I'd like to have fixed but I'm not sure it's possible. I had 2 surgeries there as a kid the first was to take out part of my intestines where there was a duodenal atresia. The second was to reconstruct it because it wasn't growing right as I grew up....the first had been after birth. That was considered by insurance to have been a cosmetic procedure. The 3rd I had on the same area...I had a hernia. The went in  for diagnostic surgery because they couldn't tell how big it was because of all the scar tissue and I was having pains so they went in a sewed the hernia closed and removed a lot of scar tissue from the area. Well the hernia popped back open but the dr said not to worry about it because its so small but the tissue had been attached to my organs and that's apparently what was causing the pains because it hasn't hurt anymore. That side of my stomach is just bigger than the other and I'd like that to look more normal. So if I were ever to have anything done it'd be that. I just don't know if that's possible.

  • I'm in the whatever floats your boat category.  I don't know if there is anything I would want, maybe Lasik, but my vision isn't bad enough yet to warrant it. So, I will continue to wear my glasses for reading and driving until that point.

  • It's funny that people are considering Lasik 'cosmetic surgery'...I had it done 2 years ago and never thought of it that way.

Personally, I think cosmetic surgery is mostly silly and pointless.   There are some procedures I understand people getting but I'd never do any myself.  I'm a huge sissy and get squeamish easily.

  • I've never had anything done. Personally, at this point, I wouldn't have anything done. The only thing I've considered (and I wouldn't do because it's not a big deal and I'm a huge baby when it comes to pain) would be something to even out my boobs. Either a reduction in one or a small implant in the other. They're about a cup size different and it bothers me on occasion. I'm hoping breast feeding might even them out.

I don't like it when people are overly plastic. There's a difference between sprucing yourself up a little and making it look like you can't move your face while you have two softballs shoved under your skin. I think plastic surgery can be done well, and it definitely can help with people's confidence! I technically have had plastic surgery when I had a cyst removed from my eyebrow. My regular doctor didn't want to leave a huge scar. I'm glad I did because I've had one removed from my shoulder and it has a huge lumpy scar.

I am going to see a plastic surgeon for a mole on my back just so I wouldn't get a scar like ou are talking about.  My dr said that if he did it and something came back bad with the labs, that he would be sending me to them anyway.

I kinda feel that most cosmetic surgery has gone way out of control.  I think that some people have good reasons to do it but alot think that it is going to solve some deeper issues that they have.

  • I think certain procedures are ok in moderation.  Procedures that although are considered cosmetic, improve your health are fine.

Surgery to "improve yourself" or "make yourself happy" don't work for me.  I have a friend who was obsessed with having bigger boobs. She used to wear 2 padded bras and chicken cutlets at all times.  She finally got surgery.  She had to finance them, flipped out when she got her first bill and saw the crazy monthly finance charge and got a second job to pay them off faster.  Then, when she was healed, she still wasn't happy.  Her big boobs made her look fat.  It wasn't in her head they, the boobs made her whole frame look wider.  Now she's not happy and is constantly on a diet to lose weight that's really just an illusion.

ETA:  My friend swore getting boobs would make her happier.  She got them about 6 years ago and still isn't happy with her appearance.

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with having a little work done.  If you think it will make you feel better about yourself, then go for it.  I know several people that have had certain procedures done, and they love they way they look because of it.

The only thing that I want to get done is a breast reduction.  I'm a short, small framed person and I wear a 34G.  I suffer from migraines, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, and deal with gawking on a daily basis.  I've had random people come up to me and ask if they are real or fake and other stupid, nasty comments that I just don't care to hear.  I would have the surgery tomorrow if I could!

    I agree with Mana.

Personally, I don't know that I'll ever be able to afford any of the procedures, so I will most likely never have anything done.
