should my wife even try?

My wife is my rock and goes out of her way to make my life happy. However, my mother has negative comments about her and hardly ever thanks my wife for times when she's helped her out. In everyday life, when my sweetie tries to be cordial, my mom seems ignorant to that fact. A few days ago, my wife tried to ask how my mom cooked something, she was totally ignored. My mom responded that she didn't remember the ingredients. Should my wife even try to prove her love to me or is it a lost cause at this point?

Seriously.  If it's not MUD, your wife doesn't need to prove shiit.  You do.  You're the one letting someone treat your spouse like crap.

  • Your wife should divorce you and find a man who will have her back.

    MUD

  • Prove her love to you?

If your mother is on your wife's case, it's your ball game: you need to stand up for your wife and tell your mother to cut it out with the remarks.
  • Why don't you tell your mother to stop being bitchy to your wife?
  • This has to be MUD.
  • I have let my mother know, THANK YOU, but it's like talking to a wall! Why wouldn't I defend her. I have to do it constantly and it's frustrating! How dare anyone here would make that assumption. I have told my mother numerous times to get off her back and she just keeps it up. It hasn't worked, ok?
  • Then what exactly are you asking here? You know the problem is with your mom and not your wife.. why should your wife have to do anything? If I were you I would tell my mom that you won't be seeing her until she can handle being nice to your wife. I would cut her out completely.
  • Your wife certainly shouldn't have to bend over backwards to win the affection and/or respect of your mother. It sounds like she's tried to be friendly and your mother has been rude in return. Since you telling your mother to back off isn't working, you may need to show her your serious and let her know that she will not be welcome in your home and that you and your wife will not be visiting with her until she can treat your wife with respect.
  • Thank you. That's exactly my point. My wife goes out of her way for everyone, but to my mother it doesn't matter what she does, my mom seems very ungrateful and seems very blunt about it. It irritates me but my mother falls on deaf ears and ignores our feelings.
  • Do you mean should your wife have to prove her love FOR you, as in prove to your mom that she loves you?

The answer is still no, but the question is less ridiculous.

If your mother isn't listening, don't give her the opportunity to behave badly buy not engaging with her. If your mom can't respect your wife and your marriage, she doesn't need to be a part of your lives.
