White Gold Wedding Rings

Hey ladies!

Quick question: how many of you have had your rings re-dipped if they are white gold and how often do you have it done?  After wearing my engagement ring for nearly 2 years, I've noticed some fading.  Do you do your engagement and your wedding ring at the same time?

 Thanks for your help!

Re: White Gold Wedding Rings

  • Since I got engaged in Dec 2010 and wasn't married until almost 2 years later i got my e-ring re-dipped a week or two before the wedding so it was all shiny.

I havent done my wedding band yet and since i haven't been wearing them for the last month i havent even thought about it, i would probably do both at the same time, my jeweler does it right then and there, no sending anything out! Idk how often it should be done, im not help with that!

  • I got my e-ring re-dipped right before the wedding.  I think it should be done every year or so, depending on how "rough" you are with it.  I never take mine off so it sees a lot of lotion, hair products, dish washing, etc.  I'll probably be getting both the e-ring and my wedding bands done in the next few months.

  • I redipped mine before epics and wedding. I probably won't again for a while. Since I have diamonds on the bands so the fading isn't noticeable.

  • I get mine done every 6 months.  When I go to the jeweler they inspect all the diamonds to make sure they're secure, then dip and polish them.
  • Thank you all so much! I will definitely be getting them dipped soon then.
  • I only got my ering done before the wedding. My rings are now pretty much gold. My skin turns them very quickly. DH and I want to get my diamonds reset in platinum and then they will never fade.

  • I hadn't even heard of this! I think you've inspired me to take my wedding band to the jeweler when I'm up in the area in a few weeks and ask! Thanks!

  • I got my e-ring dipped right before engagement pics (done last May) and then right before the wedding. My e-ring looks pretty good still, but my wedding band is turning. How quickly they turn depends on your skin chemistry, as well as what you expose them to. I always take mine off when I put on lotion and shower and cook and do dishes. I try to take them off when I wash my hands. I am going to try and wait until October to have them dipped so it's only once a year.

My rings are platinum for this reason. I turn white gold back to yellow very quickly too. I also think that I'm slightly allergic to white gold as well. Platinum is more durable, never fades, is more pure (~95% pure) so it's hypoallergenic, and if you do scratch it, it scratches white so it's not as noticeable. When we bought our rings, the price of gold was so high that gold and platinum prices were about equal.

  • I had mine done right before the wedding when they fused my ering and wedding band. I should probably get them done again soon. Probably will do it around our anniversary.
