Mint.com

I just signed up on Mint.com.  I'm in the process of adding all my accounts.  We have a mortgage account under my husband's bank log-in.  Is there a way to just get that mortgage loan on mint, without adding all of the other stuff that is associated with that log-in?  The reason I'm asking is because some of the accounts would be duplicated, since they are already linked to my log-in.

We also have a checking account for our rental property that I would prefer not to have on Mint as well, since it's completely separate from our budget.

Thanks!

Re: Mint.com

  • I use Mint. My personal spending money is in a separate account from what the household bills are paid from (both show up with my bank log in info). You have the option of hiding accounts so that money isn't including in your income, budget or your trends.

     Hope this helps. :)

  • Thanks!  I figured that out.  Next question - is there a way to delete the categories Mint set-up?  For example - I don't like how Mint specifies coffee shops, fast food, restaurants, etc.  When I look at a budget - anytime we go out to eat, that is classified as a restaurant to me.

Personally, I like knowing how much I spend on coffee, fast food (any place with a drive thru that I rarely go inside to eat at) and restaurants is anything that you sit down to eat and and tip. That may make a difference in knowing where you can easily cut money.

But, to answer you question you would go into "Budgets", go to the line item you want to delete, click on "edit details", that will open the window to change the budget amount. You could either set the budget to zero, or in the bottom right corner in red it says, "delete this budget".  If at a later time you want to add a line item, go into "budget" and click on the oval button on the left hand side above your line items that says "create a budget".

Click on "Edit Details" on the transaction you want to change, then when you change the category, you can click the checkbox to always categorize that merchant as "Restaurants." You'll have to do this once for everywhere you eat, but after a couple of months, mint will be categorizing correctly for you automatically.
