Buying a New Home- FURNITURE TIPS PLEASE?
Hello everyone, I am looking for some tips when it comes to buying furniture.
I learned I never want a kitchen table with grooves again.. all the crumbs get trapped, and have to be vacuumed out. Or a coffee table with 2 ledges means twice the surface for dust.
Basically tips for furniture that is easy to clean, simple, but still looks good.
Is there any piece of furniture (or type of fabric) that you would recommend having? Or that you would never get again?
Oh, and we have 2 small children, and a very large dog, if that helps!
Thanks
Re: Buying a New Home- FURNITURE TIPS PLEASE?
I love microsuede for family-use sofas and chairs.
I love coffee and side tables that double as storage places with closable cabinets and drawers.
Don't get a tile topped kitchen table. It is very hard to use for writing, crafting, etc.
Do NOT buy from Bob's Discount furniture. Their stuff is garbage.
I agree with PP about coffee and side tables having storage space.
Finally, remember that you don't need to furnish every room right away. Use what you have now and add/replace as you go.
I also second the idea of dual function furniture for storage. I hate having clutter out and about, so I love that I can store things inside our coffee table and ottomans.
Also, one thing I'm going to make certain on our next couch purchase, is to make sure that the back couch cushions are detachable. On our current couch (it's microfiber which is pretty easy to care for), it's really easy to remove the bottom cushion covers and toss into the wash so that they look nice. The back cushions are another matter entirely though. They're sewn into place so you can't remove them and it's a pain to spot wash them. Our couch is about 4 years old and the back cushions look pretty bad just from people sitting on it, laying back, etc. It drives me batty!
