  • My first name is Elizabeth, which means "God is my oath" according to that site. :P

My mom decided to name me after the Biblical Elizabeth, Mary's cousin who became pregnant with God's aid after she and her husband were childless for years, and became mother to John the Baptist. She named me Elizabeth because she related to the story, since she and my father struggled with infertility and I was really not expected to happen. :) I'm not all that religious, but I love what my name means to my parents.

  • Nicole

    Victory of the People

    Origin: French

I come from an Italian family and when I was born my great-grandfather, who was born in Italy and immigrated to the US as a teenager, asked my mom what my name was. She told him that my name was Nicole Marie, but he had never heard the name Nicole because it's not a common Italian name, and he said we'll call her Marie LOL!. Eventually, he warmed up to my name!

  • Linnae means lime or lemon tree. It rarely exists on name sites...if anything it is listed as a variation on Linnea. The (slightly) more common linnea is the same or a type of flower. Many plants have Linnae or linnaeus in their name b/c of carolus linnaeus (whose real name was carol linnae...he changed it to sound more latin-y)

PS- my name is pronounced Lynn-nay, and known Linnea's that were the same, and some that were lynn-nay-ah

PPS-my DH is carl...and our wedding theme was trees...yay science!

sorry I bable b/c I love my name

  • The meaning of the name Patricia is Noble

The origin of the name Patricia is English

I am named after my Mom's sister ~ i think its funny because we have an aunt Pat ( my moms sister ) and then there's me- so to distinguish between the two my nieces/ nephews call her big Pat and me little patty ( never Aunt patty always little patty ) well it will be funny till they are actually taller then me the oldest is only about an inch shorter than me and she is 12 ( i am only 5'2 ) but it will always be better than how the tell H from my brother, both named Joe - they were being super silly once and for some reason decided to call H Joe Potato and it just stuck! cracks me up!  my nephew even likes to give him mr. potato head things < we have a bride/groom mr. and mrs potato head! that he gave me for my shower etc etc >

  • Apparently my name (Christina) is of English origin and the site says it means "follower of Christ"...but it actually means "Christ-bearer"

My mom just always liked the name and I'm not English whatsoever (Croatian, Aboriginal and Canadian).

My parents thought it was a good idea to name my youngest brother Christopher...the male version of my name. lame

  • I've always read that Samantha is of Hebrew origin and means listener.  The site you sent says it originated in the Southern US in the early 1800s.  Your site didn't give a meaning, just that Samantha is a combined name from Samuel and Anthea.

I was named after Samantha from Bewitched.  It was my mom's favorite show growing up and she always loved the name from the show.

  • Margaret is English (but from a Greek word) and it means "pearl".
