Hi,
My husband and I will be traveling to Boston in October with our daughters who will be 3 years old and 9 months old. I've read previous posts but didn't really find anything related to traveling with children. I'm hoping you can give me some suggestions for good family friendly restaurants and activities. We'll be there for 4 days so we're also thinking about taking a day trip to Salem or Nantucket. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
Re: Boston with kids
I lived in Boston before I had kids, so didn't do too many things kids might like.
I'd recommend posting this on the Boston area Knot board to get some ideas as well.
I know they have a pretty good aquarium. There's the Boston Gardens, with swan boats and ponds with ducks to feed. If you are only there for 4 days, Nantucket would be a bit of a ride (including the boat to get there), but Salem might be interesting.
Also, Fodor's (a travel book company) has multiple books geared toward activities with kids. Here's one for Boston with kids:

I bought the "Washington DC with kids" book years ago when I took my kids there and it was enormously helpful. Plus, while I can research anything online, I like having a book in my hands with info, phone numbers, costs, etc.
Good luck.
How long will you be in town? For kids there is the Museum of Science, Children's Museum, and Boston Aquarium. My son also likes the carousel on the common, plus there's a playground right there.
Salem is really crazy in the fall and Nantucket is a hike. Martha's Vineyard might be a better option. The ferry is out of Woods Hole and only about 45 minutes.
Nantucket is a hike for a day trip. Maybe take the fast ferry to the cape instead. You could get rent bikes while your there. Salem is fun but it would be more for you then your kids.
I would do the kids museum while in Boston. There are some good walking tours that would be pleasant with a good double stroller. The kids will enjoy the nice weather and costume tour guides. The commons is simple, lots are space to run, play ground, flowers, etc. Check Boston Central, it lists all the kids activities in the local area each week.
