"We're the first to stand on Mars!"

"Ya, now you're the biggest idiot on two planets."

Happy Tuesday!

We don't have much going on this week. We're making another trip back home. My college friend is in from Alaska, so we're going back to J's mom's house on Thursday so we can meet up with her on Friday. I can't wait!!

When I got home from work yesterday, J had made an angel food cake for me. Yum!

Re: "We're the first to stand on Mars!"

  • I do not know this one...

My sister's dog was diagnosed with a tumor yesterday.  She's been walking funny and the MRI showed a mass has grown up one arm and is now enveloping her spinal column.  My brother in law is absolutely devastated.  I wish I knew what to do for him.  I cried when my sister walked out of the vet hospital yesterday and told me.  I was watching their kid while they met with the doctors.  She's an awesome dog.  They'll put her down in the next few months when she can no longer enjoy life.  How do you drive to the hospital knowing your puppy isn't coming home with you?  It kills me.

I don't know this one either...

JLQ: So glad you get to see your friend. AK is extremely far away.

Joy: That is so sad! Poor puppy! I don't know what you say other than I'm sorry.

Aggie: If you pop by I could use your expert opinion or really anyone else's. We are considering getting a dog, dachshund. He is 9 month old and house broken. We (my H and I) are still concern that it really isn't fair for us to own a dog, even though we desperately want one. We both work 8 hours and about 30 min from our house. So the dog would be alone for 9-10ish hours a day. We planned to crate train the dog so it would be in its crate for that time. Is this fair? Do you have any other suggestions to make it fair? We have excepted that we might not be able to get dog ever due to our work schedules and if that is the answer so be it.

  • Hello all. I don't know this one either boo.

Joy I am so sorry to hear about your nephew dog :'(  tumors suck in any species.

Degrea I completely understand what you mean. My dog is in the kennel from 8-6 most every day.  I wish that wasn't the case but I know he is happy and loves to be with us. Some breeds I think it's entirely unfair to do that to. The high energy breeds can't handle being cooped up for that long without extensive exercise. Doxies are a relatively lazy breed. They definitely need their exercise and play time but they are pretty good being lazy all day with a 30-60 min play time.  I wouldn't say your schedule will kep you from being a good dog owner.

  • It wasn't me.

What do you mean it wasn't you? We're 35 million miles from the nearest person!

ALSO - I have to say I am very impressed with you guys and the quote yesterday. First Jodi, I'm in love with you. Second, I didn't think anyone would know quotes from that movie. "No milk will ever be our milk."

J- Enjoy your time with your friend. That's so exciting!

Joy- I'm so sorry about your sister's dog. I was there when we had to put 2 of our dogs down. It's not easy.

    Hi Aggie!

Thanks Aggie! I really appreciate our opinion.

JLQ: Angel Food Cake is one of my favorites. Especially with strawberries and whip cream. YUM!!

  • HI UNEEK!

Tell us a story.  Is school done for you yet?

  • Hello.

We have a leak/plumbing issues at work. Boss was going to call the owners (since we rent) and have them send someone out.  Well cw's have taken it upon themselves to fix it. Including ripping up tiles and floorboards.  I don't think boss knows since he's been out of town.  I officially can't eat anything I have here because they have taken over the kitchen, and I'm not positive if I can go to the bathroom.  I've had it up to here (just imagine) with these people.  Also, they didn't come in until 10:20 today.

     hrumph.

  • Oh hi!!

Joy at sucks! I fear the day that happens to us and Bauer. When my family had to put down our dog I didnt find out till after (it was a month before our wedding). It made me sad! They really become such a big part of your family. It's insane!!!

I live a boring life still. We went for an u/s last week and saw the baby which was awesome. We never did one this early with DS. We are actually further along than my lmp says so we are now due December 31.  School grades here are split at the new year so I am kind of hoping this lo stays in until January. Obviously we will be happy either way but I think it is easier to be the oldest in your class than youngest.

I has an interview for my home daycare last week and am really hopeful but no holding my breath. I really don't want to have to keep working out of the home. I hate it.

i do not know this movie but LOVED yesterdays quotes!!

Lots of people think this... but I'm going to offer the other side - just in case!

I loved being the youngest in my class.  The deadline for each year was a birthday of September 1st.  I was born August 31st so I was the youngest.  However, I felt like it was always pushing me to be better than I was.  All the other kids had been reading for a few months longer?  Well, looks like I had to buckle down and learn.  All the other kids were a bit more mature than me?  Well, then I learned from them and their behavior.

I felt so motivated as a young child.  I was the youngest, smallest, and shyest - but, damn, if I didn't come out the other end just fine, with good grades, and a boat load of self-esteem.  Both my husband and I were the youngest in our classes and neither of us have any reservations about putting a child in that position.

My sister, however, was the oldest in her class and has the same reservations that you do.  I totally get where you're coming from, but I thought hearing from a kid who went through it might assuage some of your concerns.

  • Thanks Joy! My baby sister was a December 30 baby so the youngest of her class and did fine. I know it totally depends on how the child is raised and their own temperament and abilities but it just seems like being older is easier. Of course this only really plays a role for the first few years of school and then it all equals out I feel. Part of me wants a baby born this year just so ds and this lo and 2012 and 2013 which for some reason amuses me. Weirdo!
  • That's not weird!  I think it's cute - 2012 and 2013.

I wanted to be married in 2010 so I'd always know how many years I was married - kinda like I was born in 1980 and always know how old I am.

    It's 2015?  I've been married 5 years and am 35 years old.

That didn't work out and I was (am) kinda bummed.  Ha.  We're all weird.

  • Hahaha yeah. I get it!

I GOT THE KID FOR MY HOME DAYCARE!! I'm so pumped

  • Hi Everyone!

J, have fun with your friend! ANd yummy, angelfood cake!

Degrea, Aggie is right. Dachsunds are so lazy. I used to housesit for one and he was content just laying around. But don't they have back problems, Aggie? I feel like I read that somewhere.

Joy, sorry to hear about the puppy. :( I've seen so many cats having to be put down this year. Knowing the time is coming for a dog, though....so sad.

Echo, congrats on getting the kid!

Not much going on here. I'm going to the NKOTB concert on Friday! That's my excitement for the week. :)

Did I miss anyone? I don't like not being able to see the previous posts. Also, I don't know the movie...I feel like it's a Disney movie, though...

Kris: Yes they are prone to back and hip problems I think. You are suppose to let dachshund go up and down stairs and jump, especially on furniture. It is bad for their backs. Aggie can probably correct me but that is what I remember reading. My grandparents had a dachshund which is why I want one. They are comical dogs!

  • jlq - I have absolutely no idea what this movie is!  Have fun with your Alaskan friend :)

Joy - I'm so sorry about your sister's dog.  It's never easy and honestly as bad as it's been when I've had to put family pets down, I can't imagine how insanely difficult it will be when it's my own.  So difficult.

    Hi degrea!  Hi aggie!

uneek - you were so right about Jim Dale's version of HP.  He is an amazing narrator (thus far anyway!)

Beanie - sorry about your bad coworkers!  Ugh so annoying.

    Hi Echo!

Kris - have fun at the concert!

Not much going on with me.  It's been a suprisingly busy day at work which kinda came out of no where.  I hope everyone had a great Tuesday!

  • I had to google and I was right about it being a Disney movie. Never saw it, though...
  • Kris! I was at the concert almost 2 weeks ago! It was good. I'm not going to lie, it was better two years ago when they were with bsb because they did stuff together and did a lot more old stuff than new stuff. Still awesome and amazing and a bonus because I love 98 degrees.

    Enjoy!!!

  • Oh the back problems! Yes they are prone to back issues. The best thing you can do is keep them at a proper weight. Many are obese and that makes their back issues that much worse.  2 is to avoid jumping up on furniture. Stairs *usually* aren't the culprit for back issues but we do suggest avoiding stairs once a dog had had a back issue.
