Megan's Law Question

Can an offender live near a park or school? Does it depend on their offense?

Re: Megan's Law Question

  • i thought they all got lumped in to the same restrictions even though their violations/offenses can be very broad and non threatening. i didn't think they were allowed to be within a radius of a school but i'm not sure.
Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • We have an offender in our neighborhood, so I've been doing a little research.  If I remember correctly, in PA "regular" offenders are allowed to live near schools and parks but "violent" ones are not.

  • Totally dependent on the type of offender they are/what they were convicted of.  My two cents though (I worked very closely with sex offenders in the prison system)...  Hardly ever was a person convicted of a sex offense that they truly committed.  Most of them did "much worse," and they plea bargained.  I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in this day and age, you have to figure that there are a lot of offenders out there who have never been caught, and most that have been caught have not been caught for the severity of what they have done.  So, that whole offender vs. violent offender thing never makes me feel better...though legally, they do have different rules in terms of reporting/living/working, etc.
  • Thanks for your input. I'm just nervous about this with one across the street of a school and next to a park.
